Product Description:

The standard British key layout makes a UK-issue Apple keyboard work as it should do, but for some of us who have typed on non-Apple keyboards our whole lives - or for those Mac owners who are using a third-party keyboard - the Apple standard layout doesn't feel quite right. For example, Shift+2 gives you @, whereas on more standard keyboards it gives you ".

This file will map the " @ # ~ \ | £ ` keys to be where you would expect them to be on a UK keyboard.

What's new in this version:

  • Changed Option+3 -> #, Option+§ -> ` (grave or back-tick)

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

UK.keylayout ReviewMac's keyboard is standard - Version: 050306, 1/13/2007 07:41AM PST

No criticism of the product intended but what this does is create a non-standard keyboard - that used by PCs in the UK. The way Macs keyboards are is normal. Its PCs in the UK that are odd.

UK.keylayout Troubleshooting ReportTiger keeps changing back - Version: 050306, 8/24/2006 02:09AM PST

Excellent piece of software, enabled me to use my old PC keyboard on the Mac, something Apple have never offered any solution for despite the simplicity and utility.

One problem, (possibly since a recent auto-update) the keyboard layout doesn't stay configured! After setting it, a couple of minutes later Tiger decides to go back to the US keyboard layout. Thanks a lot Apple! Don't think you will force me to pay out good money for one of your stinking keyboards yet!

UK.keylayout ReviewGreat for the UK! - Version: 050306, 4/21/2005 10:57AM PST

Super - exactly what I was looking for. All you new Mac Mini people hooking up to a UK PC keyboard will find this little file makes life much, much easier!

It soon makes you realise how many times you type in your email address, so those keys being in the 'right' place (i.e. not with the '2' key!) for a UK PC user are very necessary. Now, if you could do a version that sorts out the Ctrl-End and Ctrl-Home - or swaps the Windows (Option) key with the Control key, I would be typing this far quicker!! ;-)

Instructions for a Mac newbie were easy to follow. So highly recommended! Thanks.
