Watcher ReviewHorrible Software! The absolute worst! - Version: 5.0.1, 3/15/2008 04:37PM PST

deandobkin
I cannot get this thing off my computer. It never worked well, and now continues to annoy every user except me (I am the installing administrator) frequently saying the trial period is over while shrinking the rest of the screen to a tiny spot. I cannot get it off the computer. Right now I see no other option than erase the hard drive. I e-mailed the software company and asked what to do at least 5-10 times with NO RESPONSE!!! This is the worst thing that's happened to my Macintosh since one of the kids stepped on it!!!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can find a way to remove it, let me know!!!!!!!

Watcher Developer NoteWatcher 5 beta users - Version: 5.0b1, 3/12/2007 01:52PM PST

Alorsoft
Dear Watcher 5 beta users,

Watcher 5 pre-release versions are expected to contain some bugs. If you find one, please contact software -at alorsoft.net and report them. We always answer customer emails within the next few days.

Some user post bad feedback about this beta (including its pricing !) yet they haven't sent any bug report. That's just a shame.

We are already working on the next beta which will come really soon now.

The developer.

This program works beautifully, and like a previous post, my kids are now used to it and managing their computer time much more efficiently. I ran into a small glitch, emailed the developer, and was answered back withing minutes acknowledging the problem, and fix was posted the next day. Excellent piece of software, and very easy to use if you can read the directions.

Watcher Developer NoteRead the documentation ! - Version: 3.0.1, 11/27/2005 07:12AM PST

Obviously, you haven't read the documentation since you don't even know what the program is supposed to do !

Please do not use the program without reading the documentation. This program DOES limit the time you can spend using your computer, and with unproper settings, can cause trouble to your system.

However, as much as you can't prevent someone from hammering his finger, there's not much that can be done to prevent someone from locking his system with Watcher. But you see, that's what happens with powerful tools.

Happy Watcher users will tell you that the program does actually work, and that customer emails are usually answered within the same business day.

Hope this helps,
The developer

this crashed my computer with repeated "you only have one minute to use your computer messages."

This may work if settings are adjusted before the computer is shut down, but I did not adjust settings, and eventually (after hours) realized that Watcher was teh problem and I had to remove it from StartUp Items. Its trashed, and everythings OK

The program itself does nothing but tell you how much time you are on, it seems

I just expected this program to monitor performance type usage but was very surprised to find it shutting down my sessions. Went through the deinstall on my main system disk and removed it from StartupItems. Now it terminates my other accounts.

And I started having my eMail Inbox messages disappear after installing Watcher. Coincidence or cause still to be determined.

There has to be a warning and a better set of instructions.

And I still have to get the whole thing out of my system.

Watcher Usage TipA setup tip - Version: 2.0, 3/5/2005 12:52PM PST

Gregoryc

I just downloaded this program.

A tip for those of you trying it. Even if you specify an Automatic Modification (allowance), be sure to manually increase the time allowance before you restart your Mac if you intend to use the account on the same day. The automatic allowance does not take effect until the next trigger event; eg, midnight for daily allowances.

From first impressions, the program appears to restart the computer at the end of the assigned time allowance rather than simply logging the user out. I'll know more later on in the trial.

Ideally, I would hope that the program supports Fast User Switching by not counting the time that a user's account is running in the background. Other than allowing the user to run 24/7 apps unattended, it would also guarantee that the user is warned before the logout and given time to save their documents.
