Anbody else noticed smallimage bounces a few times then fails to launch under 10.4.8? It hasn't been updated a while. Have emailed the developer, normally very responsive, but received not reply. Pity, it's the best in its class and I've become very reliant on it.
Excellent!!!!

This software is winning quality! Amazing, I love it, once I figured it out, it is great and I don't know how to thank the author! Best such software I've tried so far.
Awesome!

Hellz.
Fast batch processing on my olde iMac G3 400!
This proggie is a Godsend! even turning off quality-lowering settings, you can get an image with no EXIF and etc data (such as a wallpaper) to go from 250 kb to 160 kb for example, with no quality loss!

As for PhotoExpress, it works well when you decide to cut drammatically the dimensions of a picture. But... when I simply try to 'clean up' an image without losing quality (lossless for PE, 100% quality here) the file becomes even 50% bigger! Naturally I would have much more a solution that an explaination....
doesn't strip quite everything - Version: 2.0.4, 10/14/2005 11:50AM PST

It is an excellent product but even if you select all the stripping options it can still leave behind a few bytes of the JFIF header. I would be a very happy user and would also happily send a donation if the author could add an option to remove this info too. Until then I'm still stuck using JStrip in VPC :(

And it fixes icons, too! - Version: 2.0.3, 8/14/2005 05:17PM PST

I'd noticed that sometimes the Finder shows the icon preview of a JPG file really small, instead of the proper size. I wasn't able to determine why this happens, but it turns out that SmallImage can be used to fix the problem--simply activite the "add" option under "Icon", and a new, correctly-sized icon will be created for the duplicate file. Problem solved! Cool! (Specifically, the incorrect tiny icons are only 64 pixels, maximum, instead of the full 128 pixels. This will create a new, 128 pixel icon.)
I've also been looking for a nice little utility to strip all the assorted garbage off of a JPG file, and this looks to do the trick, without tampering with the compressed image itself. I verified this myself with a side-by-side comparison of a small image zoomed to 400%--every pixel appears to be perfectly preserved in the cleaned up copy of the file.
The user interface is also clean and elegant, unlike a lot of freeware and shareware. Seems like a good application, all around.

EXIF, thumbnails, IPTC, ICC, others, comments. Smallimage cleans it all out and doesn't recompress!
Keep what you want and throw away the rest. Very standard interface. Solved a huge Photoshop/ImageReady problem for me.
PhotoToolCM while a neat little contextual menu for EXIF does not clean out IPTC. For my camera, that's an extra 15kB in everyt thumbnail.
Pre-SmallImage 80kB, after PhotoToolCM 32kB, after SmallImage 16kB.
