WebCam2FTP ReviewBuggy but fun - Version: 1.0a2, 1/25/2009 07:58AM PST

It's true that once you edit the path properly it starts to work. But I got two big bugs with this app:

- The preview isn't showing unless the path is right. This is confusing since the cam works just fine and the preview should reflect the state of the camera, not that of the uploader.

- Once you get it going, there is no way I could access the prefs anymore. It becomes a disabled menu item. Prefs should be accesible at all times, why disable it anyway? I tried quitting but on open, It starts to broadcast right away and still doesn't give me access to the Prefs...

It's not enough to stitch modules you can get elsewhere together. A programmer has to make a working application of it all and ideally, follow at least minimaly, Apple's guidelines for the interface.

Plus, really for so little parameters, is it really worth using the Prefs at all? All these controls could fit snuggly around the preview window or in a palette. This would require a few less clicks, plus would be more in view for the newbies.

Also, maybe just a little Assistant, or at least help window showing up the first time would be nice. I figured out how to make it work by looking at the reviews and comments of VersionTracker...

For free it's hard to beat, but I can't wait for th upgrade, so I can go into the prefs and change my settings :)

Nice little app that does exaclty what supposed to. Would be nice if the caption text field could handle placeholders for the actual date and time.

This is really nice. But it would help a lot with some basic documentation. Once I figured out that you just have to enter the full path in the top field in preferences it worked. For the curious: ftp://yoursitehere.com/public_html/cam.jpg would work for instance.
