Product Description:

High Definition video editing for years has been too expensive for all but the very top tier of the video elite. With the arrival of HDV cameras, the dream of affordable High Definition video became closer to reality. However, little support existed for bringing this video format on to the computer. HDVxDV bridges the great divide between the computer and the HDV format.

HDVxDV captures and converts High Definition video from an HDV camera or VCR into any Quicktime video format. It resizes the video to fit the most common High Definition, Standard Definition, and Multi-media frame sizes. HDVxDV will change the field ordering, so that it matches what your editing system expects to see.

The video created by HDVxDV can be used with any application that can read Quicktime movies.

What's new in this version:

HDVxDV 1.024 adds support for the JVC ProHD 24 frame per second HDV format. It allows you to capture and convert video from the new JVC GY-HD100U camera and edit in Final Cut Pro, Avid or any other editing system that supports Quicktime. HDVxDV features real time audio and video preview of native HDV video and selectable 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 color upsampling. You can export either drop-frame or non-drop frame timecode to export to Quicktime in the HDVxDV preferences. In addition, the timecode is now displayed in the timeline. When a new Quicktime movie is created, the original camera's timecode will be preserved.

HDVxDV ReviewExcellent results with Canon HV-10 - Version: 1.1, 9/17/2007 04:37PM PST

I cannot recommend iMovie HD for capturing from the Canon HV-10. I experience sound-sync problems and instability. HDVxDV, when used with the free MPEG Streamcilp, produces excellent results. This is especially important if you want to finish with a 720p file,
which plays much better on older computers. HDVxDV's TS capture can be scaled with MPEG Streamclip's superior processing. So unless you have FCP or FC Express, the HDVxDV/MPEG Streamclip combo is unbeatable.

This software came out with version 1.024 in December 2005. In May 2007, they finally release a new version, version 1.1, and it still isn't a universal binary.

There are better ways to spend your money than with these folks.

HDVxDV CommentaryiMovie HD doesn't export Timecode - Version: 1.02, 2/11/2005 09:55PM PST

iMovie HD won't export timecode and HDVxDV can. iMovie HD won't correct field ordering and doesn't allow you to read MPEG2 Transport Stream files and HDVxDV can.
