Product Description:

Lynkeos processes astronomical webcam images. By stacking the best images, the signal to noise ratio is increased and details lost in the noise of individual images become visible in the resulting image.


This software accepts, as input, QuickTime sequences or still images, in any image format supported by Cocoa. It generates a 16 bits RGB TIFF image as output, to be further processed with some all-purpose image processing application.

What's new in this version:

  • Files can now be added by drag and drop (1067016),
  • Use of FFTW3 (Fastest Fourier Transform in the West version 3), for alignment, power spectrum analysis and processing. It is 1.4x faster on alignment and from 1.4x to 90x faster on processing!
  • Multiprocessor optimizations (1069795),
  • Some more optimizations (the overall improvement over v1.1 is ~3x on align/analysis/stack and up to ~100x on processing, for a G5 bipro),
  • Fixed a crash when aligning long sequences (1090624),
  • Fixed a big memory leak in alignment code (1095271),
  • Fixed a flip of the crop rectangle when dragging (1067003),
  • Fixed the display of the list frame alternating background (1067008),
  • Fixed a numeric error in entropy calculation (1111778),
  • The bundle identifier is now "net.sourceforge.lynkeos".

Thanks again Jean_Etienne for fixing the previous Intel version. This one works as well as the original PPC 1.3

I installed this version on my Intel iMac and cannot get it to run. The PPC version runs fines under Rosetta, but this one crashes on startup with the error:

"Link (dyld) error:

Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libtiff.3.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Lynkeos.app/Contents/MacOS/Lynkeos
Reason: image not found"

Anyone else having this problem?

Excellent application! Just what I was looking for. Not as many options as Kieth's Image Stacker but the ease of use and dark/flat field integration are excellent. Would be nice if it accepted more input file formats (like Canon Raw, FITS etc.). Would also be nice if the final image tinkering pane could have a "no adjustments" setting to allow all post-processing in photoshop (or similar). Keep up the excellent work.
