Bee Docs Timeline - Standard Edition ReviewSuperb app - Version: 2.1.3, 7/5/2008 07:57AM PST

Just a quickie - a user of the non-3D version. Actually I didn't know exactly what I'd use Timeline for, but the potential was so extraordinary I made the buy - I've used it for two projects now and I'd rank it with Comic Life - it's that well done/cutting edge - pure Mac - integrates with everything seemlessly. Actually, Apple should do what they did with C.L. and include Timeline with new Macs. It's definitely a switcher app.
You'll stay up nights trying to come up with projects just so you can use it.
The two times I've emailed Adam with questions, the answers came back within hours.

Printing sucks, layout control is mediocre at best, poor layout, windowserver constantly bugs out with Timeline's GUI component inconsistencies. Spare yourself, you could do better on your own with Pages or Numbers.

Bee Docs Timeline - Standard Edition ReviewSubstantial upgrade - Version: 2.0, 12/12/2007 08:59AM PST

This is a very substantial upgrade, taking Timeline from the status of a metatool to a fully fledged presentation application in its own right.

Timeline's original functionality was to take a set of date based occurrences and rapidly format them into a time-line. It was simple to use, and rather simple in its output. Typically we would either stick with its default 'clean' look, or post-operate in Illustrator. Bulk operations on time-lines required exporting and then operating in a spreadsheet app before reimporting.

Timeline 2 builds very substantially on this, now offering multiple rows, a much better handling of dates, superior management of events that want to occupy the same space, massively improved formatting and styling, the inclusion of pictures if you want them, and the ability to bulk edit dates in a spreadsheet type format without exiting the application. You can also add URLs to dates, and Timeline has its own presentation mode.

Ultimately this is an extremely welcome upgrade, particularly as it is at no cost to existing registered users — a slightly odd choice, given the increased functionality.

The only downside is that, despite a simple and intuitive interface, there is no built-in help.

I am a registered owner of 1.6. When I downloaded and launched 2.0, it automatically copied my registration info and was up and running.

Nice to have developer not charge for upgrade.

Thanks.

Be aware that this product has not had any serious update in a long, long time. It does what does okay, but for the price, one should expect more effort from a non-free software developer.

This is an outstanding program and extremely easy to use. I am just an intermediate Mac user and was able to start using the software without help. The program has many uses. I could not recommend it more highly

Bee Docs Timeline - Standard Edition ReviewCheap at the price - Version: 1.51, 8/5/2006 02:52AM PST

I just registered Timeline - missed the 35% discount thing, but that doesn't really bother me. If this was a plugin for Illustrator or QuarkXpress, it would cost a lot more than $50.

Timeline is a very simple application which accomplishes a task which seems simple but which is actually very tedious to achieve. I've just completed a chart in five minutes that would have taken me an hour in Illustrator. How much is my time worth? I would say that Timeline has already paid for itself (and, heck, I've got time to write this review).

It _could_ use more formatting features, but, in itself, it is completely functional and completely stable. This is not a 'killer app' in the tradition of ComicLife, but, if you need to do timelines professionally, and you are working to professional deadlines, Timeline is worth every penny.

Bee Docs Timeline - Standard Edition Commentary$50? ouch! - Version: 1.5, 4/16/2006 11:17PM PST

It's a great app, but $50 is way to pricey for a piece of shareware to make timelines. Esp. when somthing big like Delicious Library (just to give one example) is $40.

The perfect price for this would be $20-$25. At that price I'd jump right in...

This is a very elegant timeline creator. My only criticism is that I wish there were more features, such as the ability to create parallel timelines in the software rather than requiring a page layout program. However, for what it does do, it does very, very well.
