Product Description:

Users of the original (free) version of WireTap can continue to use WireTap Pro free of charge to record system audio to AIFF files. An audio "soundmark" is dubbed over your recordings if you use features not present in the original WireTap while using WireTap Pro without having registered it.

WireTap Pro is your all-purpose digital recording device: with the click of a button, WireTap Pro allows you to record any audio on your Mac. WireTap Pro's simple but powerful interface allows you to record audio from any running applications, as well as from any microphone, line-in, headset, and even your radioSHARK.

Want to record sound snippets from your favorite DVD movie, digitize your old record collection, record streaming audio from the Internet, or even use your iPod as a personal Dictaphone? WireTap Pro is your solution.

WireTap Pro can save your digital recordings in the popular .mp3, AAC, QuickTime, and AIFF file formats, saving them to your hard drive for later processing/listening. WireTap Pro can also save your recordings directly into iTunes, or onto your iPod or other iTunes-compatible .mp3 player.

You have total control over the file format, compression, and quality of your recordings. Using presets, you can automatically save your digital music in high quality .mp3 format, your voice recordings in a more compressed, space-saving AAC format, or your DVD clips in uncompressed AIFF format... all with the click of one button. But wait, it gets better.

To facilitate recording streaming audio from the Internet, WireTap Pro integrates tightly with Apple's iCal, allowing you to schedule recording sessions that will automatically start up a streaming audio feed, and record it unattended. Never miss your favorite BBC Radio or NPR program again!

WireTap Pro ReviewIt does the trick - Version: 1.2.0, 4/13/2007 03:03AM PST

Unlike Hijack, this application allows me to capture the audio output from my computer and from a sampler, like GPO, during play back of a score from Overture, so that I can complete a rough demo of a score quickly. It seems to work without gliches and is pretty cheap as well.

WireTap Pro is a so so app. My main problem with it is they are sooooo slow on updates. If a quicktime update comes out and breaks it, expect to wait for a while till they come up with an update so you can use it again. It also records (at least it did up until I stopped using it) your system sounds as well. So if your mail makes a ding sound for example, it will come out on your recording. It is also more expensive than audio hijack which is far superior.

Not a terribly bad program, there is just better out there. Plus, as you read here and in other posts they drag their feet terribly with updates.

No problems with installation.
Start up the program, choose sound format and file save location, and go! Also excellent for recording streamed audio where congestion or limited bandwidth results in silent breaks while the buffer is being refilled: WireTap Pro has an option to eliminate silence from the recording. This option is especially flexible in that the level of sound volume below which the recording pauses is adjustable (to compensate for background noise, etc.).
I do not have an Intel-based Mac, so I cannot comment on that situation, but I am sure that an Intel version is in the works.
Last, but not least, I used this app often in its "unregistered" state for over a year (with most options besides basic AIFF recording unavailable), and I felt that the company was being extremely generous in their trial use policy. (Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in the company, nor do I know any of the people that work for it).
