WireTap Pro ReviewIt does the trick - Version: 1.2.0, 4/13/2007 03:03AM PST

Unlike Hijack, this application allows me to capture the audio output from my computer and from a sampler, like GPO, during play back of a score from Overture, so that I can complete a rough demo of a score quickly. It seems to work without gliches and is pretty cheap as well.

WireTap Pro is a so so app. My main problem with it is they are sooooo slow on updates. If a quicktime update comes out and breaks it, expect to wait for a while till they come up with an update so you can use it again. It also records (at least it did up until I stopped using it) your system sounds as well. So if your mail makes a ding sound for example, it will come out on your recording. It is also more expensive than audio hijack which is far superior.

Not a terribly bad program, there is just better out there. Plus, as you read here and in other posts they drag their feet terribly with updates.

No problems with installation.
Start up the program, choose sound format and file save location, and go! Also excellent for recording streamed audio where congestion or limited bandwidth results in silent breaks while the buffer is being refilled: WireTap Pro has an option to eliminate silence from the recording. This option is especially flexible in that the level of sound volume below which the recording pauses is adjustable (to compensate for background noise, etc.).
I do not have an Intel-based Mac, so I cannot comment on that situation, but I am sure that an Intel version is in the works.
Last, but not least, I used this app often in its "unregistered" state for over a year (with most options besides basic AIFF recording unavailable), and I felt that the company was being extremely generous in their trial use policy. (Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in the company, nor do I know any of the people that work for it).

ok... so we've been waiting all this time for... an update to make wiretap "pro" run under rosetta?!!? that's what's taken six months to write?... what, between stretches of sipping mai tais in belize ;) ? Sure it runs fine under rosetta, but it's a processor hog. The indications that apple would release intel machines ahead of schedule were loud and clear; the dev team at ambrosia should have had a UB version of wiretap pro perhaps... hmm... around the time Audio Hijack Pro managed to go universal?

I loved the previous versions. Easy and simple.
And i tried to upgrade it now, to 1.2.0.
and i simply can't see what went wrong.
i already see some people complaining about...
the installation runs ok, but when i start the app
it beeps three times and crash!
can only cance, reopen or report the problem to apple.
i can't open the wiretap program.
anyone?
sorry, this is not the place for helping out, but...

Wiretap sticks to its purpose, and doesn't try to be too much at once. What it does, it does well.

I've been using it forever. But I'm upgrading because the freeware will only save in .aiff format, which is inconvenient for my evil purposes.

WireTap Pro Commentarystill no universal binary? - Version: 1.1.4, 5/19/2006 12:04AM PST

it's mid may and still no univ. binary... this has forced me to move onto audio hijack pro, which has managed to transition a much more complicated piece of software to intel macs 2 months ago... wiretap pro univ. binary in the works must really be amazing for us to have to wait this long...
