Product Description:

Seashore is an open source image editor for Cocoa. It features gradients, textures and anti-aliasing for both text and brush strokes. It supports multiple layers and alpha channel editing. It is based around the GIMP's technology and uses the same native file format.

What's new in this version:

  • Introduces multi-threaded brush strokes
  • Adds the ability to import SVG files to Seashore (requires additional software)
  • Adds new alignment options for layers
  • Adds option for image smoothing when viewing images
  • Adds utility window configuration shortcuts
  • Adds a new mechanism to add textures to Seashore
  • Adds the ability to import layers from other documents
  • Adds preset sizes to a number of dialogs
  • Adds the ability to disable new documents at start-up
  • Adds new brushes including ones suitable for high resolution images
  • Adds the ability to scale and rotate floating selections using the position tool
  • Adds the ability to import 16-bit images (and convert them to 8-bit for editing)
  • Adds the ability to export JPEG files with embedded colour profiles
  • Adds the ability to export TIFF files in the CMYK format
  • Fixes a bug that caused the zoom-level to affect printing
  • Fixes a bug that caused alpha channels to appear incorrectly in JPEGs or when CMYK Previewing was on
  • Fixes a bug that caused inverse selections to be wrong for layers with non-zero offsets
  • Fixes a bug that caused hairline fractures to sometimes appear when editing images
  • Fixes the gradient tool so it now works with greyscale image
  • Fixes a bug that meant scaling would not work correctly with floating selections
  • Fixes a bug that caused problems when using the cropping tool at non-standard sizes
  • Fixes a ColorSync bug so that Seashore uses the display's profile as opposed to ColorSync's default RGB profile (this was not properly fixed in the previous version)
  • Fixes a bug whereby the incorrect file format might sometimes be used upon saving after cancelling a save operation

Seashore ReviewWorks smoothly in Leopard on Intel also - Version: 0.1.9, 1/29/2009 12:43PM PST

While I'd love to see a Line tool, more-functional text handling and a couple of other touches (Shift key to constrain drawing/painting to straight lines, etc.) overall this is an awesome tool for those who want an image editor that's small, simple (to use- it has a solid feature set) and stable. For those folks with graphics tablets- the brushes are pressure-sensitive, which was a nice surprise.

Seashore Reviewthrilled so far, but worried the most recent version is 11mo old - Version: 0.1.9, 3/14/2008 01:42AM PST

Seashore is one of the few PhotoShop alternatives that has all the features I need, and I've been very happy with it so far. I love, love, love the simple keystrokes for getting some or all of the palates out of the way. Tools seem more intuitive and easier to use than in my ancient copy of PS7. It may not have every bell and whistle, but it does everything I need.

Only 2 problems so far:

1) Lassoing sometimes causes LONG spinning-beachball pauses.

2) If the last update was 11 months ago, I'm worried I've just fallen in love with abandonware.
