While I'd love to see a Line tool, more-functional text handling and a couple of other touches (Shift key to constrain drawing/painting to straight lines, etc.) overall this is an awesome tool for those who want an image editor that's small, simple (to use- it has a solid feature set) and stable. For those folks with graphics tablets- the brushes are pressure-sensitive, which was a nice surprise.
thrilled so far, but worried the most recent version is 11mo old

Seashore is one of the few PhotoShop alternatives that has all the features I need, and I've been very happy with it so far. I love, love, love the simple keystrokes for getting some or all of the palates out of the way. Tools seem more intuitive and easier to use than in my ancient copy of PS7. It may not have every bell and whistle, but it does everything I need.
Only 2 problems so far:
1) Lassoing sometimes causes LONG spinning-beachball pauses.
2) If the last update was 11 months ago, I'm worried I've just fallen in love with abandonware.

Does a wonderful job! As a tech geek I do not have the visual skills God gave an avocado but I needed something to easily edit photos (mostly to add text) and create simple images (mostly to fill in cover art iTunes and Clutter will not find). This does both my little needs well and I see the capacity for much more - if I try and learn to use it.
Great product! Many thanks to the developer.

I've been looking for a freeware imaging utlity with photoshop like features. Seashore is great. It does exactly what you'd expect it to do with ease. Powerful and simple. Great product!

There is indeed a Universal version at
http://seashore.sourceforge.net/universal.php
as a previous comment indicated (thanks, risk1). But it is nowhere listed as such. Perhaps VT should point it out?
It seems to work fine, very fast; just ignore the warning window about the Help file: it won't close but you can proceed anyway.

Problem Downloading - Version: 0.1.8 RC2, 2/15/2006 05:30AM PST

I can't get Version 0.1.8 RC2 to download completely---keep ending up with a file that's a good bit smaller than 3.7M and fails to mount because it has no mountable file systems.

This is an amazing app. Very lightweight, only the essential features, saves you the time and money of using photoshop for simple tasks. Kudos for the developer and kudos for GIMP !
