ST 3.1 is really astonishing ! Simple but with full control of the game. And has a splendid interface. Works great on my 15" MacBook Pro (OSX 10.5.5, Intel Core Duo 2Ghz, 2 Mb mem.). Thanks a lot, IronHorseJohn ! I look forward to trying it with my 7 grandchildren...After running the demo version about 10 times, I am happy to send you the 15$ you absolutely deserve! Keep on improving it...

SteamTRAIN ReviewAwesome Steamtrain simulator - Version: 2.0.2, 12/13/2006 11:00AM PST

brilor--2008
Version 2 adds incredible graphics courtesy of OpenGL. Night views and very realistic smoke, bi-directional trains and more. As a developer I appreciate the major effort it takes to upgrade to OpenGL, so this relatively short delivery of OpenGL says a lot about the developer's skill and *commitment* to enhancing this product. This product, IMO, is easily worth $40 or more. It is unique. Sure, there are other train sims, but not with the details and feel of SteamTRAIN. The developer is responsive to user requests and seriously considers all enhancement requests. This customer service alone is worth my registration fee. I can't buy this kind of service from the large software companies. Kudos to this developer for a wonderful product delivered at a reasonable price.

SteamTRAIN CommentaryFor engine drivers not game players - Version: 2.0.2, 12/11/2006 04:34PM PST

I've had a play with googolChooChoo3D and was very impressed by its ingenuity; however, I shan't be buying it as it's a totally different animal from SteamTRAIN. I don't want to design track and just have a RUN button to make the train go round it. I want to be able to really drive a train, to experience its inertia, the loss of traction on slippery rails, the problem of shunting cars into the right order without blocking the main line with its speeding Express, to use my skill to stop in a passing bay with feeble brakes on a downgrade, to take my mouse lantern on a black night to make sure the tail end is not sticking out into the main line, to economise on fuel so I don't run out before I get to a refuelling point etc etc. SteamTRAIN was designed to include users' ideas so it IS what they want already, but will certainly get better as it develops. It is also a very compact file for what it does. My grandchildren just like to make the wheels go round, watch the smoke, blow the whistle, ring the bell and chortle with delight as they crash it.

SteamTRAIN ReviewUpgrade path? - Version: 2.0.2, 12/10/2006 08:38AM PST

This is a nice basic steam train simulator. I've always thought it a bit overpriced for the features, however. The lack of an upgrade path now seems rather out of line, particularly given the level of improvements between the original and 2.

As to complaining about people's reviews, this is a customer review site. One idea might be to make the product have more features, so more people think it is worth the price. Alternately lower the price. OTOH, no product will ever satisfy or impress everyone.

I'm amazed at the (supposed) adults who post here as if this were not the most fabulous occupation for a SIX-year-old ever designed. Intelligent, witty, a few scares ... it's been a pleasure to see this app evolve as my grandson has grown into this challenging game, and I thank the developer for this unique app.

SteamTRAIN ReviewNice but only for a while - Version: 1.4.1, 2/21/2006 01:39PM PST

This could be something. But it's fun for 15 minutes, then it's enough. You can not design you own trains nor your own terrain. I know this would require some other kind of programming, but it could be a kind of open to everyone to send in your own train. I feel there is more in this, but the developer seems to lacks time (and money?) to really make something out of this.

Also I don't like the big train in the bottom half of the screen, I want to switch that off, but that's not possible. And I think $25 is too much. $10 would be more appropriate, but then again, it needs more features. Network connection to be on the same track as my friend?

SteamTRAIN ReviewSometimes during the day a diversion is necessary - Version: 1.4.1, 1/31/2006 02:25PM PST

rancher
This provides that diversion for me. After hours or design or writing it all builds up and I need to just fiddle with something else. This is it. I paid my shareware after I tried an earlier version and the upgrades have been nice. No - it's not a complex simulation - but if you go to dispatcher mode it can get tricky and difficult with some thinking involved. I give it a thumbs up - and it works nicely on a dual 2ghz G5.
