Product Description:

iSweep is a utility to allow you to find duplicate tracks in iTunes. It allows duplicate searching based on combinations of Track Name, Artist, Album, File Size and Track Length using a user set time threshold. Once duplicates have been found, you have the options of listing duplicates, backing up duplicates to a user defined directory or deleting duplicates.

iSweep also has the ability to "Protect Playlists" so that backing up or deleing duplicates doesn't cause your playlists to "break".

iTunes 4.7 now has a duplicates view, but it is very limited in how it finds duplicates. iSweep allows much more control in determining what tracks are duplicates. iSweep also allows you to not only delete duplicates, but also gives you the option to backup duplicates to a user chosen location.

iSweep also allows you to search your hard drive for all music files that are not registered as a part of the iTunes Database. Once the music files are found, you have the option to move them all to a location of your choice. You would be surprised how many orphaned music files are on most drives, I know I was.

iSweep is easy to use and takes all the pain out of tracking down, backing up or deleting duplicate tracks from iTunes.

What's new in this version:

  • More than half of the application has been rewritten from scratch including:
  • Backup and Delete are now running in their own thread. This stops the app from freezing up on some systems
  • The interface between iSweep and iTunes has been rewritten which stops the failure to remove some song entries which a couple of people experienced
  • Any files that failed when deleting, backing up or moving are now reported at the end of the process
  • Live status on the file being worked on.
  • Several more behind the scenes updates to improve overall performance and handle the changes made to the internals of iTunes

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel

iSweep CommentaryMixed Bag - Version: 1.7.4, 5/8/2008 06:38AM PST

This looks like the fastest and most capable application for this task that I have found and I tried several. My 17,000 song library is a monster to tackle since trying to recover from an external hard drive failure and merging various iterations of the library.

The problem is I would love to see how it handles deletions, etc but since I have not received a registration code despite paying for one several days ago I have no idea.

I would politely suggest a service such as eSellerate or the like to automate the issuance of registration codes so customers can immediately start using the software they've purchased.

iSweep ReviewThis update makes this the best iTunes program ever - Version: 1.7.4, 3/20/2008 03:09PM PST

I've been using iSweep for a couple of years. I did have some issues with it hanging and needing to be shut down. However, the developer always responded to me and walked me through fixing the issue (my disk permissions needed to be cleaned up).

I just upgraded to the new version and they were right, I haven't had any more problems and the program runs extremely fast. It is well worth my $15.

The comments on this program are very unjustified. It seems that people want to complain without even registering the product which doesn't make sense. Yes, there are freeware items out there, but they don't do anything like this or work as well.

iSweep Reviewwhy not show some appreciation? - Version: 1.3, 3/21/2007 12:48AM PST

I've checked out a lot of iTunes scripts, for deleting dead entries, duplicates, etc, and so far couldn't get any of them to work properly. iSweep did the job right away, so I consider my $15 well spent.

iSweep isn't perfect; it hangs up here and there, but come on! 90% of apps have problems which need ironing out. I've emailed the developer and found him helpful and highly professional. Given time, I think iSweep could become a fantastic tool for iTunes power & pro users.

Just because there's so much freeware around, there's no reason to knock somebody for charging a few bucks for honest work. You can test iSweep-with limited features- for as long as you want before paying the fee.
