Product Description:

The tool of choice for casual movie editing.
  • Natively* supports AVI and MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4
  • Chapters and Split
  • Create iPod/iPhone files with chapter markers
  • Support of very big files (> 4GB for MPEG and AVI)
  • Batch Export
  • Audio Waveform and resynchronization
  • Support for Google Video gvi files and Internet downloads
  • Friendly
* Natively means that you can open, edit and save in a breeze, without reencoding. Just what QuickTime Pro does for mov, SimpleMovieX also does for AVI and MPEG.

What's new in this version:

  • Built-in Metadata editor, to tag your movies directly inside SimpleMovieX.
  • Delete whole Chapter. (not just the marker, also the footage)
  • Chapter markers at beginning of MP4 and MOV movies are now optional. You can also specify the chapter name in Preferences.
  • Movie loading is faster.
  • Saving in AVI format doesn't work fine with Perian codec, version 1.1.3 (but works with version 1.0). Fixed.
  • In multi-language movies, saving in AVI doesn't always saves the selected audio track. Fixed.
  • Cannot move frame by frame, backwards, when on the last frame of a movie. Fixed.
  • Search pane displays only part of the movie, or doesn't refresh correctly. Fixed.
  • When you cut a very short segment of a long MP4 file, saving sometimes fails. Fixed.
  • When you merge movies containing chapters with others without chapters, the video tracks would remain separated, thus preventing native saving in MP4 or AVI formats. Fixed.
  • Merging by droping several movies into a document creates a chapters at time t=0 even if there is already one present. Fixed.
  • Full screen playback now longer displays lateral strips.
  • Use slash / character inside a file name will cause saving to fail. Now this character is no longer accepted, for your own good...
  • Crash when opening a mov file with multiple references inside a same track. Fixed.
  • DV PAL movies are now resized to 768x576, respecting native vertical resolution.
  • Merging by droping several movies could be halted by warning messages. Fixed.
  • The files that SimpleMovieX opens remained locked until the application quits (preventing deletion from Trash, even if document has been closed). Fixed.
  • Using a file name several times for saving during a SimpleMovieX session would cause confusion. Fixed.
  • Saving of MP4 files over 4GB in size, or containing RTP tracks, would fail due to size check error. Fixed.
  • When Cut actions are used while a chapter name is being edited, it gives unexpected result. Fixed.
  • "Add to Movie" and "Add to Selection & Scale" does Paste instead of Add, under certains conditions. Fixed.
  • In Audio Sync pane, the numeric field is only active when you click on it. Sometimes the comma and decimal separator were wrongly interpreted. Fixed.
  • Table with list of movies in batch export window is clipped when saving starts. Fixed.

SimpleMovieX CommentaryWarning -- this program installs something... - Version: 3.9.2, 11/14/2009 01:45PM PST

This program installs something on your computer that keeps track of how many times you've tried it. I tried this program today, not remembering I had tried it several months ago, and it let me know I had now used it twice. Trashing the program does not remove the tracking thing, whatever it is. Does anyone know what it's called so I can find and delete it?

SimpleMovieX ReviewSimpleMovieX still has a major problem with AVIs - Version: 3.9.1, 8/14/2009 05:42AM PST

I tried SimpleMovieX several times but there is still a major problem for me (and I guess many other users) - and I never got any response by the developers:

I'm using an online TV recorder (save.tv) which saves videos as AVIs (DIVX).

In the past I've cut out commercials of those AVIs with VirtualDub, a free Windows application (http://www.virtualdub.org) via Parallels Desktop on my Mac.

Native Editing with VirtualDub works perfect. I am viewing the edited videos on my Playstation 3 without any problems.

Now - since I'm using a Mac - I've tried the recent version of SimpleMovieX. While I can cut and save those AVIs (DIVX) with SimpleMovieX (respecting the editing points = keyframe restriction) like with VirtualDub - and also view them on my Mac - showing those videos edited with SimpleMovieX on my Playstation 3 doesn't work: The movie and the sound are playing too fast and frames are jumping.

While I've read what has been published about the AVI format I have to stick to it since it's what I get from save.tv - and I don't want to loose quality and time by re-encoding the videos.

So since loss-less cutting of AVIs (DIVX) is possible VirtualDub I cannot understand why it shouldn't be possible with SimpleMovieX.

I really would like to buy SimpleMovieX if it worked for me.

SimpleMovieX ReviewPerfect for the job i needed it to do. - Version: 3.6.3, 6/1/2008 11:32AM PST

The Gizzle
I bought this just to add chapter markers to my apple TV and iphone video files.
This great little app allowed me to add chapter markers to video files i already had in itunes.
With its great UI, I was able to do this quickly, easily and safely.
No over the top bells and whistles, just a clean and robust little app.
This app does things that quicktime just doesn't do. Well worth the price.
