MacFreePOPs CommentaryRepeated and frequent password requests since upgrading to 10.6 - Version: 2.6, 10/3/2009 03:51AM PST

philharve
Hi All

I have noticed that since upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.x), prior to MacFreePops 2.6 fetching my emails from my two webmail accounts, it requests their passwords. This occurs every few minutes. Despite providing the passwords and adding them to my Keychain, the requests still keep coming. I have learnt that cancelling these requests is the best way to deal with them. Cancelling does not appear to affect MacFreePops ability to fetch my emails. However, the requests are annoying even though they are quickly dealt with.

I encountered a similar problem with 10.5.x but the password requests were infrequent. With 10.6.x the requests appear every fetch cycle.

REGARDS

Phil

MacFreePOPs CommentaryWorkability versus Settings?? - Version: 2.2, 7/2/2007 01:13PM PST

Have downloaded v2.2 for Mac 10.4 Intel but fail to make it work. Would be VERY interested in knowing what settings were made by those who managed.
Have followed instructions re Server 127.0.0.1 and port 2000 on both Entourage and Thunderbird, as well as re account/user name. Error reply on both Entourage and Thunderbird.
My IMAP accounts have extension .fr and not .com. I understood that this should not be a problem. Or does one have to download an extra extension for .fr? If so, where? Believe I saw a list of extra extensions but for PC.
Would be MORE THAN GRATEFUL for any advice you can give me based on your own experience.
FreePOPs is a great idea, but for the moment it seems to lack precision. Wish I knew Italian in which case I would gladly volunteer a translation of the manual.....
ALSO wonder why v2.2 shows up as 0.2.5 when one clicks on "Info about MacFreePOPs" in upper left screen corner.
Thanks in advance for all ideas that might help.
Torelia

MacFreePOPs Review2.0 is not completely in English - Version: 2.0, 4/25/2007 05:22PM PST

The new 2.0 version is a good improvement on the previous one but has one small problem (from what I can see so far anyway) the English language version does not seem to be fully in English, mainly just the application menu appears to be in Italian (well, I am guessing it is that).
But all in all it's a very useful application.

MacFreePOPs ReviewWorks well... but hogs CPU occasionaly - Version: 1.6, 9/11/2006 03:37PM PST

I'm using MacFreePops with my Intel Macbook (Dual Core) for over a month now. It works nicely, and fetches mail from my two yahoo email accounts to the inbox in mail.app. However, there's something I am noticing something... occasionally, the CPU usage for MacFreePops goes up to 160%-180% (it's hogging both the processor cores). I have found no explanation for this anywhere on the internet. This high CPU usage heats up the processor, and the macbook fan starts to swing. I'm now beginning to get worried about the fan sound... the macbook used to work exceptionally silently before I installed MacFreePops.

At first I struggled, then I just read the Outlook instructions and applied that to my Mail settings and suddenly I was receiving my MSN and Hotmail emails! I'm super stoked, because the Mail integration with the attachments and everything will make managing all my accounts SO much easier! I will be sending a donation tomorrow (payday) :-)

MacFreePOPs Usage Tippersevered.... - Version: 1.6, 2/9/2006 11:01AM PST

... and I got it to work. The secret is restarting Mail and the FreePOP servers after configuration. At least, that's what got it working for me. And, seems to be pretty seamless. I did remove the HTTPMail bundle thingee that I had also, which did seem to be in the way somewhat, but don't know. It's not being supported, so I had no reason to keep it. Happy to recommend this, although I'd still like a better setup system....

MacFreePOPs Usage Tipcannot configure - Version: 1.6, 2/9/2006 10:07AM PST

okay, I'm not a total idiot, but I could not get this app to access my Yahoo mail, or another web mail I have. I could not find a real tutorial for Apple Mail, and I tried, I really did, to configure my settings the way it said to, but, I keep getting connection failures. Anyone have a real tutorial for Apple Mail that actually gets me up and running? I can't recommend anything I can't configure....
