Product Description:

One day I finally got sick of spending eight years maintaining samples of all my 300+ fonts by hand. So I banged out FontDoc, a very simple program which shows you all of the fonts on your system using any text and any size you choose. Finally, no more squinting at microscopic WYSIWYG font menus or having to click on a font to see what it looks like.

FontDoc simply spits out a Rich Text document containing samples of all your fonts. Save it or print it for future reference. I'm hoping for big time-savings when I have to pick the perfect typeface for the titles in my next iMovie.

I'm also really hoping FontDoc will be rendered obsolete by something in a future version of Font Book. But until then, it's yours, dear denizens of Macdom.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixes bug where printing in Leopard would only produce one page of output
  • Fixes bug where no fonts would appear in Jaguar
  • Corrupt fonts may cause crashes. Please don't use them.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

  • Mac OS X 10.3.9

FontDoc ReviewUninstalled font recognition! - Version: 1.2.1, 5/14/2008 01:06PM PST

FontDoc has become a brilliant tool. Not only does it now look in uninstalled font folders but it digs into multiple subfolders. I ran it today on a folder containing 21 subfolders with each of those having 2-3 folders of fonts. FontDoc pulled ALL of them up.

There is a Size drop-down menu for viewing the fonts but the view size is also editable within the view box. I could enter 31.125 pt. for example. Being able to view at 150 pt. is a blessing for Dingbats.

It's fast, simple and free!

Some Feature Requests:
- I'd like to see a custom text box next to Font Name Display also. To add numbers or special symbols.

- Toggle the background/fonts to reverse (white font on black).

- Add line breaks in the Custom Text

Let me make sure I have your name right so I can name my first born after you. 2700+ fonts (in a folder outside of the system folder) converted to a PDF in less than 10 minutes, which I can then send to my clients, thereby avoiding hours of haggling over what fonts I chose for the project. They can now tell me in advance, saving much grief.

Where can I send money? You deserve it. In a simple app, you've managed to do what countless font managers have neglected since OS9. Furthermore, this works better and faster than any other ever did. OK, in all fairness, I got scared for a sec when the the progress bar stopped moving. I breathed. Waited a short time, and then the heavens opened up and the angels descended amidst joyous light and glorious song

Ahem. The entire set of fonts was parsed. The program did not crash. I was very pleased.

Great program. :)
