Quite nice, could do with an option or two.

This is stable, very quick to navigate and rather nice! It would be good to have an option to loop the movie and also another to stop the movie player window fading in and out when selecting a new movie. This is a nice player which works well with multiple monitor support.
Videos won't play -- only Quicktime-compatible codecs supported

No candidate to replace Mplayer or VLC: It doesn't support more video codecs than Quicktime does, which is why only few videos will actually play.
It's a shame that there is still no video player for OS X that supports many formats, doesn't crash (like VLC) und has keyboard shortcuts like mplayer has (left/right arrow).
But I hear the latter is in the works.
And VLC is free and has a decent GUI.
So, ichi will have to improve on the hack on top of Apple's Quicktime library that it is now...
