Puzzles Forever ReviewStellar puzzle game . . . - Version: 1.1, 3/11/2006 12:13PM PST

Intellect Inside
This game is superb. What else can I say? It's exactly what I expect in a modern PC puzzle game.

The developer is responsive to feedback too. Cool!

Puzzles Forever ReviewVery nice ... lacking in a few features, but nice - Version: 1.0.1, 12/12/2004 03:20AM PST

I enjoy putting puzzles together, and this is a close match to the "real thing". My kids, aged 4-8, all are able to put puzzles together as well, and have a great time doing it.

My top-X list of missing features are:

1) Ability to configure the background. The details of the pieces can get lost in the lines of the background.

2) Pull images from iPhoto library instead of just from disk.

3) Different zooming levels. On a large-piece-count puzzle you need to zoom in to see the piece details, but when zoomed in you can lose track of where you are in the overall puzzle.

3) Image preview: two suggestions, one for me and one for the kids. For me, allow the preview image to be turned off. When I put together a puzzle, I've seen the box outside, then dump all the pieces out, and put the box face-down. It's much more of a challenge trying to put it together without the reference right there in front of you! Second suggestion is just the opposite, for the kids: allow the preview to be "overlaid" on the work area, perhaps mostly-transparent, to give a better idea of how things are shaping up and where the pieces go.

4) "Clicking" in of unconnected pieces. Often a pice will "click" into the work area, even when it is not anywhere near any other piece. This seems to indicate that it is in the "right" spot, but not always. Please don't do this, or let me turn it off!

5) Allow a "sides-only" toggle.

6) Add "scratch work areas" ... places where I can take a handful of pieces that all go together somehow, and work them out, then bring the finished product back to the main work area. That's how I usuall work real puzzles; it'd be nice to be able to do that here too.

Puzzles Forever Usage TipA little feature refinement - Version: 1.0.1, 11/15/2004 08:11PM PST

Background picture: You can use ResEdit to change the background picture yourself. It would be great to have a Preference setting for this, though.
Crazy comets: The comets are just a series of frames in a resource -- you could change that in ResEdit too. Again, it would be great to be able to just turn them off in Preferences.
Saved puzzles: It seems you should be able to save more (unlimited?) puzzles that have been started and saved.
Zoooooom in: The zoom mode is essential for some puzzles, but can make some users carsick. It would be more user-friendly to have a zoom window just around the cursor -- instead of the whole screen. On Windows, "BrainBuster" does this... you turn on magnification and there's a magnifying glass window around your hand cursor.
Multi-levels zoom: Along the same lines... instead of just "zoom or not", it would be helpful to allow multiple levels of zoom.
Kid friendly option: Having a preference that would lay down the shapes of the puzzle pieces onto the unfinished background would help younger children get more out of the game. Note that the "don't rotate my pieces" option is a great feature you have in here for kids, though!
Bravo... great program... hope you make a few improvements for v 1.1
