Really great utility

Well-written app. Very useful and self-explanatory. The only suggestions I have are:
1) I would really like an option to be alerted if I'm overwriting a file that's already at the destination, and given the choice to replace or cancel, like the usual way the Mac handles such things. I don't like having the only options of replacing a file without being warned if it's older or newer, or the file not being sent at all.
2) The interface is a bit obtrusive. It would be nice if it could be hidden somehow and activated when a file is dragged over a much smaller bit of screen real estate.
But those aside, it's definitely a winner. Love the permissions settings feature, among others.

is this still being maintained? - Version: 2.0, 5/24/2006 12:47PM PST

this would be perfect, if
a) its reliability would be improved
b) interface would be made even more convenient

this is a neat thing basically, but i think the interface could be more optimized. i would love to have aqua status bars in the browser window itself (for both ways). think of the safari download manager. it has happened to me that i dropped a file into the window, then trying to figure out if it actually is being sent or not (because sometimes it apparently fails without any kind of message). at any rate i would prefer seeing activity at a glance without having to open an additional log window ...

Using Schick as a Permissions changer - Version: 2.0, 7/3/2005 07:14PM PST

Just because it may not be obvious, if you set your preferences accordingly, you can use Schick to easily change the permissions and owner of a file very easily via drag and drop. Just send it to yourself and a copy will be made in the destination you set in the preferences, with new permissions and/or owner.
This is a great feature of Schick over other file sharing programs. When you receive a file via Schick, you have preferences over permissions and ownership. Even if you are receiving it from yourself.

is it faster than iChat? - Version: 2.0, 7/3/2005 03:18AM PST

i have a question:
is Schick faster than iChat? or is it better otherwise?
i don't want to spoil the party, but i'm always trying to reduce the number of programs running AND an app like this only makes sense, if you have it run all the time and i am running iChat all the time...
regards, niko.

Thanks to Heiko for developing such a useful and well thought out freeware. It makes sharing files in my house so easy! I'm going to use it in my friend's small law office so they can get around the problem of permissions when they send each other files. This is what the real Mac community is all about!

This app does one thing and does it extremely well. Having multiple macs, this makes sending files as easy as imaginable.
Suggestions:
- Windows client
- put the computer name instead/in addition to user name so we can actually figure out which computer is which when the user name is the same
- context menu support instead of a menu item

This is what the mac is all about. Elegant and easy. We use this at home for sending files between the four macs in the house - share comics, mp3s, stuff that my wife & kids need to see, photos, etc. By far the easiest way of moving stuff within the Lynksys network. No problems/bugs.The author should be commended not only for the software, but also the price. Thanks.
Sending files directly from finder... - Version: 1.1.0.0, 1/6/2005 11:11AM PST

...is already possible: Hit cmd-shift-S to send the selected file. You can also do this via Services Menu: Finder -> Services -> Schick -> Send selected....

3) Even though I have Schick set up to open at log in (on several Macs) it doesn't. I have to launch it manually. Not sure why.
