Product Description:

These two components allow you open DPX and Cineon files using Quicktime. This means you can use the Quicktime Player (or Final Cut) to open and view images in DPX or Cineon format.

On OSX 10.2 and 10.3 the Finder will use the components to display a thumbnail image in the 'file info' window and in Finder windows using the 'column' view. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work on Tiger (10.4). There is a bugreport submitted to Apple regarding this.

DPX and Cineon are image file formats designed to capture the full dynamic range of motion picture film negative. Mostly these files have a 10bit pixel depth using logarithmic scale to distribute samples/steps on the grayscale from black to white in such a way that there are more samples used for the dark range.

The current version will open the files as they are. During loading they are converted to an 8bit lineair format at this time. There are no additional conversions.

For more information on the Cineon format look at the KODAK Digital LAD Test Image page. The DPX format is described in the ANSI/SMPTE 268M-1994 document.

Was told to check it by the editor I work with.

Extremely usefull for checking pictures set up by our VFX department. Makes it possible and easy for me as Production Designer to check on FX-shots in their original format. Saves a lot of time communicating them. Great program.
