Solitaire XL ReviewFrequent crashes - Version: 1.1.7, 6/3/2008 03:07AM PST

This is a terrific app - for OS X 10.4 Tiger (both PPC and Intel versions) where it works extremely well!
Sadly after I upgraded to 10.5 Leopard the app began crashing. The problem got worse through 10.5.1 and 10.5.2. now that I am using 10.5.3 the app crashes three or four times a session ....!
So I will be trashing it - mind you I can't seem to be able to contact Lavacat Software because their server is always 'down!'

The developer's site, lavacat.com, seems to be down, the link redirects to register.com. Can't find an alternative download site. Anyone with more luck?

The graphics are perfect. The network sharing of high scores is disturbing.

Solitaire XL ReviewNice idea with potential ...only a handfull of chances to win a game - Version: 1.1.7, 7/15/2006 09:44PM PST

The idea is actually good. A nice pastime. Only the possibility to winning a game is also hardly given. The chance to win 1x after 50 plays, isn`t very high. The User is the loser.

This is adware. It brings down ads in the background, and sends unknown data from your Mac to unknown faraway places. One has to be a few fries short of a Happy Meal to use sneakware like this.

Solitaire XL ReviewWow . . . . - Version: 1.0, 11/19/2004 05:46PM PST

This is exactly what solitaire on OS X should be.

The interface is beautiful and takes advantage of almost every OS X technology. The game floats above your desktop and other apps. Animation is smooth and its speed is variable as is the card / playing space which can be scaled and moved. Changing card design is as simple as drag and drop.

Of course everything is not quite right.
Sometimes double clicking on a card will move it to the top , sometimes not. Double clicking on aces in the deck moves them to the top, but other cards do not.

Solitaire XL ReviewNicely done, but... - Version: 1.0, 10/15/2004 10:19PM PST

Very nice little app, but it lost major points with me when it tried to call home without any explanation or notice (tried, of course, because Snitch caught it and promptly gagged it.) Any app that tries to talk to the outside world wihout telling me why both irritates and raises suspicion.

Would like to be able to drop the background completely, but still a very elegant appearing app. Would have been ranked twice as high if not for the above issue.

Solitaire XL ReviewWorks fine on my 15"FP iMac G4 - Version: 1.0, 10/14/2004 06:02AM PST

No complaints. I like the ability to add or delete the background, resize the whole game, and drag/drop images for the back of cards. A simple game utilizing the Mac GUI very well (nice preferences window)... and it's FREE!! Who can complain? Many applications that cost big $$ don't adhere to the MAc GUI standards as well as Solitaire XL. Nice ap! [No, I do not know anyone connected to this application or its development!]
