MassReplaceIt ReviewGreat Little App! - Version: 2.9.1, 2/28/2007 10:41PM PST

Was looking for something to search through all my documents and get rid of characters that my NAS backup drive didn't like. I gave up on Automator and tried Renamer4Mac, which was OK, but this seems better. First, it has a good clear preview option which allows you to selectively accept or reject changes. Second it has an undo in case you screw up. Third it's very fast on search. And last, you can set up multiple search criteria easily and save them as one search. (I think Renamer can do this too.) Very light help manual, but hey it's free!

Its interface takes a bit of getting used to in that it's not the most intuitive application and uses unorthodox terminology (i.e., "Mask" instead of "Filter"), but it is a handy little tool.

I did find one glitch, however, and that is that it doesn't know how to work with commas in filenames. At least, I couldn't get it to work. I don't know if there are any other characters that it can't handle, but I know commas don't work. So, I still had to go and make those edits, manually.

Because of that, I give it a less than perfect score and can't recommend it as a solution for someone that is looking for it to work as expected.

MassReplaceIt ReviewEffective - Version: 2.9.1, 9/21/2006 04:57PM PST

This specialized program does the trick very well. The ability to use regular expressions is a huge plus. I should say one can use it well for finds as well as find-and-replaces (just click "stop" after the "replace" shows which files would be affected). The author was also very responsive to a support/feature request I had.
