RSSOwl Troubleshooting ReportRSSOwl is slowing Dashboard and Frontrow down - Version: 1.2.3, 4/9/2007 02:55AM PST

mariusbach
hi,
as soon as RSSOwl is activated, frontrow and even dashboard is losing it's pretty animation. the animation is not "flowing" anymore. doesn't look nice and is very slow. as soon as i close RSSOwl, pretty animations are back.

i don't know why... i also often have crashes when reading articles. even when doing nothing it suddenly crashes.

however, RSSOwl is my favourite newsreader. perhaps the developers can try to fix this frontrow issue.

greets and happy eastern

RSSOwl ReviewPowerful! - Version: 1.2.2, 9/10/2006 11:55AM PST

For something free this is incredibly powerful and complete.
  • SEARCH!
  • Add feed from URL has one of the most powerful feed discovery tools I've seen.
  • OPML Import was so quick!
  • has a one click feed editing.
The only thing is I can't manage to select several feeds when drag and drop, is that normal?

When starting off I was a bit confused as it first show the intro and no menu, but once you have a feed showing all the tools appear.

RSSOwl ReviewGreat Free Application - Version: 1.2, 4/8/2006 08:30AM PST

I have been trying out several Newsfeed apps including; NetNewsWire, Vienna, and others.

Many people cite NetNewsWire as being their favorite app, but I prefer RSSOwl for a few reasons over other apps:
- it's free
- it's fast
- it is very customizable

The only downside is that you need to spend a few minutes doing the tutorial to become familiar with it, because it appears complex at first sight. Once you have educated yourself (about 5-10 minutes), this program reveals itself as easily the best newsreader out there (free, or not).

This seems to be the freeware newsreader which will replace the now moneysucking NewsFire. Great work, nice and easily to customize. Thanks! : )

RSSOwl ReviewPretty, but non-functional - Version: 1.0, 1/28/2005 07:24PM PST

Um, no HTML rendering?

It appears to be a halfway-decent reader, but the feeds it retrieves merely show the raw HTML text of the site.

Not really useful...

RSSOwl CommentaryComment on RSS - Version: 1.0, 12/20/2004 06:45AM PST

One note to makers of RSS feed readers. There exists a real need for a way to host one's RSS streams in a minimalist HTML format so that people can read their feeds on a cellular phone, which naturally can't handle lots of extravagant graphics but could display the contents of RSS feeds with graphics easily. Services like Bloglines, which let you surf your feeds online from any computer, still require logins and other things that a cell phone couldn't handle. So how about adding support for this with an RSS reader -- it could have options for creation of a view-anywhere HTML display that could be surfed from any machine via web sharing, or uploaded to an FTP site at regular intervals? Viewing one's RSS feeds on a cell phone is a "killer app" that has been ignored totally so far, as long as I can tell.
