Jedit X ReviewGreat Application - Version: 1.32, 2/14/2006 10:24PM PST

The bookmarking and split window features combined with native rtf file formats make this an excellent choice for nearly anyone needing a nice feature set and cross platform compatibility.

The split window feature is excellent and a real boon to my productivity. (This is lacking in so many other editors today)

Jedit X CommentaryNow has highlighting - Version: 1.28, 10/26/2005 11:15PM PST

The new "Character Back Color" menu item is what other editors call a highlighter. It is now possible to highlight text in any color you please. The cool thing about this feature is that I asked the developer about it only two weeks ago or so, and suddenly it's there. Nice. Of course, other (but not all) editors can do this too, but Jedit X has features I haven't found in others. Try it and see if it suits your working style. What I like about it is its bookmarks feature and the fact that its been rewritten in cocoa.

Jedit X CommentaryLuxury cocoa text editor - Version: 1.0.19b, 3/18/2005 12:25PM PST

ghostdoguk_dotmac is right, now that TextWrangler is
freeware this very fine cocoa text editor is a little over
priced. Tex-Edit Plus at $15 seems more on the mark.
But Jedit X is meant for the asian market and therefore
priced accordingly. The toolbar has all the options that
I wish the Nisus developers could have included in Express.
Unfortunately it's not a word processor and Apples own
TextEdit suits my slight daily needs of an rtf editor.

(fifteen bucks and I might change my mind;)

Jedit X ReviewNot enough editors ? - Version: 1.0.19b, 2/23/2005 05:04PM PST

SubEthaEdit, Jedit (the one written in java), Smultron, textEditPlus, TextWrangler. I have not spent a penny--- no reason to buy this. Sorry. Get real.

I was going to try this but I'm not willing to send my email address to Japan. You can't download it unless you give your "correct" email address. No thanks.

Jedit X ReviewGreat stuff - Version: 1.0.1, 11/10/2004 09:51AM PST

I've recently been very frustrated with BBEdit because of it's Carbon base... Almost all of the typing I do is in Cocoa apps (for example, Xcode, Mail, Safari, iChat), and I've gotten so used to the Cocoa selection behaviour, cursor movements, how the keyboard and mouse work etc, that I feel very uncomfortable working in a Carbon app. For some time now I've been looking for a Cocoa-based text editor that could replace BBEdit. Jedit X is by no means a perfect text editor, but after using it for only a few minutes I can say it shows a lot of promise. It's evidently not as mature as BBEdit, and it needs a bit of polish (the English localization, for instance, is a bit rough in places). But it's quick enough, has enough features, and seems stable enough. We'll see how it holds up under extended testing. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes...

Jedit X CommentaryI'm confused - Version: 1.0.1, 11/10/2004 05:19AM PST

As far as i was aware jEdit is an open-source GPL-licensed editor available from jedit.org

So what's this $28 thing called Jedit? Is someone charging for a GPL-licensed editor that's available elsewhere for free, or is it a completely different thing that's rather confusingly using the name "Jedit"?

Jedit X ReviewNice but niche. - Version: 1.00, 10/4/2004 07:29AM PST

This app has been in beta for what seems an eternity.
So I was glad to see it make it's english language debut,
but $29 dollars for an advanced but not revolutionary version
of Apple 'free' textedit seems a little steep.
TexEdit at around $15 would be a more reasonable starting price.
If you need the 'extras' this app offers then the price may be
nominal. For those not needing excellent asian language support or
for those not working with obscure programming languages should try
TexEdit or the word processors Mellel/Nisus.

Jedit X ReviewNeat Features - Version: 1.00, 10/4/2004 03:20AM PST

This is a fast Cocoa text processor with several neat features which will be much appreciated by any serious user. Notably its Multiple Replace feature allows to save unlimited number of Find/Replace pairs of expressions in named files which can be saved and loaded when needed. Regular expression syntax supported include Ruby, POSIX Basic, POSIX Extended, Emacs, grep, GNU regfgex, Java (Sun java.util.regex), and Perl. Its Multi-File Search is another neat feature. It can even search within RTF files and display accented characters correctly. English version of Help is under preparation. Also the developer is very responsive to feedback.
