iGlasses ReviewWARNING!! This version DOWNGRADES apps that use iSight to 32-bit!!!! - Version: 2.1.3, 11/2/2009 12:27AM PST

Kudrabar
They say that this version brings Snow Leopard "Support for using iGlasses in iChat, Photo Booth, QuickTime Player X and Safari" as well as "Bruji apps (BookPedia, DVDPedia, etc.)", but ALL IT DOES IS DOWNGRADE ANY OF YOUR APPS THAT USE iSight TO 32-BIT !!

So, although Snow Leopard's fundamental improvement is the introduction of 64-bit processing, Ecamm Network's method of supporting Snow Leopard is to HOBBLE IT for any app that uses iGlasses !

Probably because they can't figure out how to make their app 64-bit, Ecamm Networks never warns you about (or more appropriately, "admits") this, even as their installer tries to downgrade all your iSight-using apps to 32-bit ! Their VersionTracker and MacUpdate pages never mention that their method of supporting Snow Leopard is to DEFEAT IT -- not at any time before you've made your payment (unless, of course, you figure it out yourself) !

This is nearly the worst behavior I've ever witnessed from a third-party developer, and it's definitely the most cynical. Unfortunately, the bar has been set pretty low, so "nearly the worst" behavior is what most other devs would consider "unconscionable." Either way, it's foul enough to put Ecamm Network on my "Never do business with these greedy pigs" list.

iGlasses CommentaryThey must be joking - setting apps to 32bit - Version: 2.1.3, 10/16/2009 01:29AM PST

Ecamm are behaving in a highly improper manner to have an installer that sets some significant apps to run in 32bit mode. Even though I'm a registered user, I've uninstalled this app. They can forget about me until they get their app in 64bit mode.

The MacFixIt blurb claims Snow Leopard compatibility, but since iGalsses is not, in fact, 64 bit compatible, this is a bogus claim. Who wants to run their 64 bit apps in 32 bit mode? Not many I should think. Else why upgrade to Snow Leopard in the first place? Until iGlasses is 64 bit capable, use it at your own risk. Of course, it will still work in earlier versions of the Mac OS. But by muddying the issue of OS X 10.6 compatibility, eCamm does a disservice to their users and to their product, effectively undermining their own credibility. We can only hope most other developers will choose not to follow their poor example.

iGlasses Usage Tiponly 32-bit - Version: 2.1.3, 10/13/2009 03:05PM PST

Just a note: the installer is going to want to set the SL apps to 32-bit mode. At least, there's now an option to run in SL, but you will lose 64-bit mode for iChat, PhotoBooth and the others.

iGlasses ReviewStabler, stronger - Version: 2.1.2, 8/12/2009 10:12PM PST

I've now had a chance to play with the new version of iGlasses and it's as good as the prior version, with greater stability and a tiny bit-better user interface. And no new charge over the initial $10. Such a deal.

I find iGlasses to be an incredibly useful add-on for use with my onboard and clip-on iSight cameras. It allows you to refine the image you portray in fine detail: lighting, size, color saturation, etc. Everything. And it requires absolutely no training.

iGlasses and its sibling application, Call Recorder, make my Skype subscription tremendously versatile and useful. They're a great combination and they won't set you back a whole lot. Great stuff.

iGlasses ReviewOnce downloaded cannot get rid of it - Version: 2.1.2, 4/10/2009 05:47AM PST

I downloaded this program tried it for a day and found it really uninteresting. I deleted it as comprehensively as I could using AppZapper, but now its about 3 months down the track I still get annoying 'Buy me now' dialogues popping up. There doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it; its as if the demo has infected my whole system.
