TarMac Developer NoteRE: crashes, loses HFS metadata - Version: 1.01, 2/16/2005 08:31PM PST

WebIS_Developer
Regarding the below feedback - there's some good stuff in there. I'd like to address each of the concerns: 1) Zero-length file causes TarMac to crash - you're correct, that's not a case that I made TarMac handle. I've filed a bug on it - should be a relatively trivial fix. It would also be helpful for me to know how you intend to use zero-length files with TarMac. 2) MacBinary - you're right, by design TarMac only MacBins files that have resource forks (the intent was to not alter files unless necessary. Even though TarMac is Mac-only, it's likely that users would want to extract files from these tar archives on other OSes, so automatically macbinning all files would have been obtrusive in those cases). You make a good point about metadata, so I've filed a feature request to preserve metadata for all files. 3) Save toolbar button - I'm just plain embarrased about this one, I don't know how I let that one slip by me in testing. That will be fixed in the next release. And finally, I totally understand you not wanting to go through registration in order to just send some feedback on the app. We went ahead and created an email address that anyone can send feedback to regarding TarMac: tarmacfeedback@webis.net. Please let us know if you have any other ideas on how to improve the app. We already have a lot of ideas for future releases ourselves, but your ideas are what count. Thanks!

TarMac Reviewcrashes, loses HFS metadata - Version: 1.01, 2/7/2005 01:15PM PST

sporobolus
made a .tar.gz out of a single zero-length file and TarMac crashes every time i try to open the result; also, it looks like if a file doesn't have a resource fork, the app doesn't use MacBinary and thus also loses HFS medata such as type, creator, and creation date; also, Save toolbar item does not activate when Save is available in File menu

would submit this feedback to developer, but feedback link in app leads to a forum which requires registration ...
