Used it to remove duplicated PDF files - it found most. It failed on files that had slightly different names and modification/creation dates (for example, if file NAME was file NAME 1, and it was duplicated a day after it was created.)
SO while there is room for improvement, in 18 seconds it cleared up a 100 Mb of hard drive space and removed duplicate files. I would happily use again.
Worked on my Intel Core Duo MacBook just fine.

First of all, Mr. Clean Version 1.7 does work with Tiger 4.9. I don't know if it works with 4.10, nor do I care, nor will I be testing it any time soon if you get my drift.
This simple utility does more than just locate duplicate files on your HD (and references your external HD as well since Tiger indexes all of your files cross-drive). My biggest gripe with the interface is that the darned report, which doesn't give you an option to "copy-past" in the file menu (you have to manually do this inside the report box) doesn't skip any lines, and all of the files are jumbled together, one color, and the report file paths (for both the original and the copy) are not the most easily things to discern. Other than this annoyance, this program is very useful for FINDING duplicate files, and if you want, you can have Mister Clean automatically delete these files for you if you wish, but I haven't tried this feature, nor will I, because of what I have to say below (read on please).
The BEST THING about this program, is, if you REALLY know what a good, organized HD is all about, then you will want to use this program to *help* achieve your IDEAL HD. Have you ever intentionally made a copy of a very important file (let's use a Word Doc for this example) just because you 1) wanted a second copy just in case; 2) reference this same document on a continual basis (it contains vital information)? What you may not realize, is that now you have 2 copies, and if you ever go back and update the one file, you either 1) forget to go back and update the other so they are still exact; 2) you have to be bothered doing #1.
Well, this program PREVENTS you from falling into this trap if you know what you're doing. You use it to: 1) locate the file that you want to keep in a certain spot, then make an alias of it; 2) Place this alias in the spot of the duplicate file, then delete the duplicate file. Now when you update either the alias, or the original, both of the files are updated at once, negating the problem I mentioned above.
THEREFORE, IT CAN BE SAID THAT THIS PROGRAM CAN BE USED TO CORRECT VITAL LINKS OF NECESSARY FILES ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. Q.E.D.

This program does what it says it does. It's extremely simple to use and does it's one job very well. It's a search and destroy for duplicate files. There are several duplicate finders out there and all have more but unneeded features and complexity.
I will agree with a earlier review, the fact that the progress indicator is not animated is makes it appear that the program has locked up while it is infact working. The progress bar just jumps each time it finishes and folder but it does not pulsate like the normal OS X progress bar does.
If you use it, you also might want to have time set aside. To be fair, we are running this on an OLD G4 tower running OS 10.2 (which is another good thing about this program-it will run on antique versions of OS x). It took about 24 hours to find 4400 duplicate image in a folder containing 39,000 images. Other dupe finders I've found take an equally long time to search.
The thing to note is that it's not completely dangerous, it moves the duplicates to the trash but does not empty it so you have the opportunity to review the dupes before emptying the trash.

Nice user interface and easy to understand. But I miss some kind of status indicator! Also I miss an interactive decision about which files to remove and not! Now it is easy that files with the same name that should not be removed get erased automaticly!
Use with care and NOT on the entire volume!

Better watch your trigger finger with this one, one slip and you're in the toilet. Mr. Clean is no sissy, he's crisp and deadly — loves to trash files. I guess it gets the job done, but I was too nervous to enjoy the process.
Mr. Clean is for a methodical, unhurried user. I recommend it with caution.

a piece of 'abandonware' called CLEANER for OS 9, that did this AND made FAT files thin (strips out the 68k from the PPC-a legacy thingy-but some apps do still carry both) which can save a lot of space. It also purged WDEF files-which are rare these days in 9-although MiniCAD 7 has them.
Displays 31 character filenames only.

I just downloaded and ran Mr. Clean.
First I tried drag-and-dropping a folder onto the icon. That didn't work. I launched the app and drug the folder to the application window. Nothing happened. I clicked the "Select Folder/Volume to scan" button and was greeted by the standard open dialog box. Dragging a folder to that window worked (of course.)
I selected the "Remove duplicates with changed names" option (which seems a bit of a misnomer given that I had no intention of actually removing the files - shouldn't it be "Search for duplicates with changed names"?)
I noticed two small black triangles with the exact appearance of the standard "click-this-triangle-to-show-more-info" icons used by the OS and other programs. Clicking them does nothing, they are apparently decoration.
The "Detailed log" option was on by default, excellent, just the way I like it.
I clicked the "Just look for unwanted files and log" button. It was very slow compared to other duplicate file finding software I have tried (today.) For an unnerving length of time the progress bar did nothing at all and then finally shot to the half-way point, stayed there as it listed subfolder names and then shot to 100%. Yet another progress bar that doesn't accurately depict progress.
The program produced a log and I immediately tried to expand the window to read the log because it is displayed in a very small text box. There is no resize corner icon but the maximize/zoom (green light) button extended the window vertically (and oddly moved it from where I had placed the window to the far left side of the screen as in location 0,0.) I read the log and again clicked the zoom button. To my surprise, the window did not return to its former small size but rather moved about 25 pixels to the right. Clicking the zoom button repeatedly causes the window to dance back and forth between the two locations but has no effect on the window's size.
A banner message above the log window reads "Command click on log to magnify font." That works although it only magnifies the first time, the second time it reduces the font to the original size.
The log displayed a list of paths to files that it had (somehow) determined to be duplicates. The filenames were reduced to 31 character names ala Classic. I am not running Classic, I am running 10.3.8 and virtually every file I create has a name longer than 31 characters.
Because of the truncated names I was unable to determine if the files it listed included ALL instances of a given file or only tertiary copies of the file (and not the first instance.) This renders the software utterly and completely useless for me.
Next I tried to ascertain how the software had concluded that the files were duplicates (are they EXACT byte-by-byte matches?) I could find no explanation in the program itself and no help menu was evident. I checked the Read Me file. No documentation regarding how files are compared is included.
I did however note that the Read Me mentioned a few things that had not been evident within the application such as "HOLD DOWN COMMAND KEY TO STOP PROCESS." I would never have guessed although it would have successfully cancelled had I typed the STANDARD command-period to cancel.
The documentation also mentioned that when scanning for empty folders it may need repeated runs to actually remove them all. The developer could first remove invisible files and then use an AppleEvent to perform a depth first deletion of empty folders and thus avoid having users run the program several times to trash empty folders.
find (path) -d -type d -exec rmdir {} \;
Due to the truncated filenames and the uncertainty as to how files were compared to determine which files are duplicates, I quit the software and moved it to the trash.

I would call this version "unstable", with a poor user interface. If you simply must try it, then do so only after making a complete full backup of your iPhoto files (as a minimum). This is good practice anyway, but I thought you could use a horror story to remind you how important it is.
