WeatherDock ReviewGreat, but lacking in certain areas - Version: 2.5.1, 11/15/2009 11:25AM PST

Cowicide
I've chosen this over all the other menubar weather apps because it seems really stable and it's very customizable to get it how I like it to run for the most part (ironically, killing it from the Dock and have it only work in the menubar for one thing). But it's missing stars for lacking two things that would make me switch to another app if it had feature parity with WeatherDock plus one or both of these two options:

1) An option to show a local and/or state image of radar like the meteorologist app does
Here is an image of it in action here:
http://z.about.com/d/macs/1/0/M/4/-/-/meteorologist450x480.jpg

2) An option to show how many inches of snow accumulation is predicted instead of only saying "light snow", "heavy snow", etc.

If WeatherDock added these two things, I wouldn't be frustrated by having to go to actual weather sites with the Safari browser and could just rely on WeatherDock. While we're at it, another option to turn red or some other type of alert to show when there are severe weather alerts posted.

WeatherDock ReviewGood weather app - Version: 2.5.1, 8/8/2009 06:16AM PST

After suffering through Weatherpop and having Meteorologist begin locking up daily, I switched to WeatherDock to have weather in my menu bar. It seems to be more stable than either so far and has a more pleasing interface than Meteorologist. The menu icons are not ideal, though. They're designed for the full interface, either after you pull up the menu or you open the regular window. They lost a lot of detail and contrast in the menu bar.

A couple of suggestions for improvements. One is that there should be a variable refresh interval. The other programs have it. This seems to be refreshing once an hour, and that's way too seldom. Up to once every 15 minutes would be better. And right now, the days and nights in the menu blend together. It would be better to have alternating background colors for the rows, white for day and light gray for night. Just for the text, though. Leave the icon column with a white background so the icons don't need to be changed with transparency.

WeatherDock ReviewWeather Dock as a widget for Panther OS! Yeah! - Version: 2.5.1, 2/14/2009 11:10AM PST

Grand Exhualted Poobah
I immediately loved the Weather Dock because Panther OS does not have built in widget functionality. (Oh yes, I have Leopard OS too but it runs slower and then I can't run windows xp and classic 09 at the same time).
I love the speaking feature. You can also set a desktop icon and unlike other desktop icons this one vanishes when your mouse cursor moves over it. Sure beats the hassle with trying to find space for it on your desktop. So many times I've had issues with desktop icons interfering with other selections beneath. Like take expose for instance. Often setting a corner of the screen for a certain function means accidentally activating expose when I really wanted to click on something in that corner of the screen ie. the dock for instance.
The dock icon is very well done, easy to see. There are so many features with this app that its sure to fit any need.
Sometimes you find an app that really fits a need you didn't know you had. This one is terrific! I have it auto launch at boot time!

no problems here. very handy in the menubar which is how I use it. I wish it could display personal weather stations as Wunderground does, but hey WeatherDock is a great little program.

I've only been using it for about 5 hours, but the fixes made in version 2.5 to account for the changes to the weather.com feed seem to have resolved the update problem. Thanks, Alwin.

WeatherDock CommentaryNo 6th to 10th day forecast :-( - Version: 2.5, 5/8/2008 07:19PM PST

Arrrrgghhh!!! Not like predicting the weather has been that successful for even beyond 3 to 4 days, but I STILL used the 6- to 10- day forecast on occasion whenever we went on vacations or planned weekend outings a week in advance. Now I can't even get a USELESS prediction. Probably better NOT to know anything at all than it is to know something erroneous or unpredictable...

does not update. Only way to update is to restart the app. In the pull down from menu bar it says: "Weather dock is starting up, one moment please."

WeatherDock Troubleshooting ReportWill not update automatically as often as before - Version: 2.4.7, 5/8/2008 10:37AM PST

Hey, this issue is strange, but WeatherDock has been updating current displayed weather increasingly less frequently over the past two weeks, and now I have to update current displayed weather manually by going to Refresh Weather in the pull-down menu from the menubar icon of WeatherDock.
I thought that updating from 2.4.6 would fix this problem.
I do not bust people's chops about the program updating every minute... but updates of current displayed weather should be occurring more frequently than once an hour, and in fact, they were, up until a few weeks ago.
This program otherwise updated current displayed weather appropriately until then, and then automatic updates seemed to fade away, and I would always have to update it manually.

Is this normal?
