Footlights ReviewAm I missing something? - Version: 2.0.1, 2/24/2006 01:40AM PST

This seems like a pretty pointless and broken application. The UI is non intuitive and very un-Mac like. Very limited features. I added some movies from remote drive at one point and now they are stuck there. If I try to delete them the app crashes with exception error. While it shows movies in a list, it is not a play list. The skip forward and back button don't seem to work. In general I like the apps from Radical breeze, but this seems like someone playing around with Xcode for fun, not something to be released as complete product, let alone something to ever consider charging for.

Get VLC. It has a ton of features, is free and is a finished product.

I like the interface, ease of use, and generally nice appearance. I was looking for a media player that I could make playlists with.

The only problem I see is that I don't seem to be able to play videos full screen on my second display (I have a dual display setup and generally like to play videos on the second screen, rather than the primary screen). The sound will continue, and the window will go full-screen but it just gets stuck on whatever frame it happens to be on when you go full screen.

Unfortunately for me, that's a pretty important feature, but if they manage to work that bug out, I'd be ready to buy it. If you don't have a second display, I'd say it's worth the money.

Now if only someone would make one of these with .wmv capability so I wouldn't have to deal with crappy MS software...

As the old saying goes -- it's easier to be critical than be right.

Radical Breeze's Footlights is a simple elegant solution for creating and playing back video playlists. OK, its not iTunes. But the result is much the same. From knowing and loving DiscBlaze -- I can assure you that developer is innovative and responsive.

It's unfortunate that a vocal few can stifle (or destroy) those who seek only to provide innovative, inexpensive solutions to real needs. In the past years, we've lost many developers because of this attitude. At a time when we need to encourage and support developers such as Radical Breeze -- it is far too easy to be critical.

Radical Breeze's efforts deserve a fair trial -- contructive critique -- and support.
I know they'll get mine.
