Growl ReviewSnow Leopard now complete! - Version: 1.2b4, 9/22/2009 06:21AM PST

I have been reduced to one "space" since SL came out, but now that Growl is updated, I can safely confine Adium and other chatty apps to other spaces.
Growl is an effective tool for showing heads up displays for many apps that may update (or may not) their dock icons. For a dock hider like myself, and multiple space user, this utility is INVALUABLE.
Try in conjunction with GrowlMail and hardware growler. For sysadmins, use growlnotify and use the "listen" feature in the pref pane to monitor your flock of sheep, whether it be workstations or servers.

I get a lot of Console messages under 10.6, and would you believe the uninstaller is a PPC app, not Universal?! GrowlMail is disabled on 10.6...

Growl ReviewGreat but may slow Mail.app - Version: 1.1.6, 8/3/2009 10:36PM PST

I love Growl and use it to keep track of what applications I have running in other Spaces are doing or receive notifications of system events.

One thing I have noticed with this version and Apple's Mail in Leopard is that it seems to interfere with user interaction with the program. For example, when Mail is downloading messages and the Growl notifications are being displayed, I cannot select/view a message in mail, change to another folder, or access any of Mail's menus. I never had that problem with any previous version.

Neither the application nor the developer's website will download. Their server must be overloaded. They should increase their bandwidth to accommodate the users.

Growl CommentaryNeeds to Become Shareware for Better Support - Version: 1.1.4, 2/26/2009 10:49AM PST

I love Growl, but like others in the freeware category it lags (significantly at times) in keeping current with the Mac OS, or other issues that can make using it miserable. I wish they would simply make it shareware whereby we could expect more support.

the one thing about Growl i've always had a hard time believing is that you can't make the notifications appear wherever you want on your screen. they have to be in a corner unless you're using Music Video, or Bezel with the Charcoal option selected. is this really true, or am i just missing something in the documentation about making the notifications appear where you want them?

I feel lost when I don't have Growl keeping me up to date on everything. It's really pretty amazing how many apps integrate with Growl and how little configuration it needs; it really follows the Mac philosophy of "just working." There is, of course, plenty of customization for those who want it, but all of the configuration is painless. Five stars!

Growl ReviewNot for Leopard Mail - Version: 1.1.4, 7/4/2008 12:25AM PST

Besides it says: 10.4 and higher, it is not compatible with 10.5.4 When you use Growl for Mail, the connection is dropped to 0 when you download your emails. Why is Growl still not compatible with Leopard after these updates?
