Product Description:

App Presto is a multi-purpose utility designed to make life with Mac OS X a little easier by automating several common tasks. By design, App Presto makes it easy to apply special behavioral settings to all applications, and as needed, to specific applications. App Presto can allow you to:

Hide applications that are no longer in the foreground.
Automatically make sure all windows for an application come forward when the application is clicked. Currently this only happens when the application's icon is clicked in the Dock.
Force quit the frontmost application with a simple key combination. This can be useful to quit games that have frozen up when the machine is in full screen mode.

What's new in this version:

By request, there is an option to temporarily disable the "Automatically Hide" feature when the shift key is pressed.

Does what I need at a very reasonable fee. The documentation could be made a little clearer for some. But it is workable/solveable and certainely worth a try by anyone needing this type of tool.

This does something I have been hoping to see for a long time: enables you to select a list of individual apps to hide when they are not in front -- and it does more too. It is quite flexible and very simple to configure. I am slightly wary of running yet another permanent daemon -- would it not be possible to adjust plists or otherwise hack apps to change their hiding behaviour? -- but it doesn't seem to be too demanding.
