GPSUtility ReviewA good companion to RouteBuddy - Version: 2.00, 6/25/2007 06:17AM PST

I use this together with RouteBuddy ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30483 ) and a Nokia LD-3W bluetooth unit.

Interface is not the prettiest, but it works like a charm. And it's free!

GPSUtility ReviewUseful app - Version: 2.00, 6/16/2006 08:30AM PST

Useful little app, but the interface needs reworking. The slides are annoying, especially when they overlap as the monitoring and settings slides do. Why not put this information all on one window pane, or move the settings to menu options?

cheers

A nice, simple little app that works. It gives you the basic navigation info from the GPS. The monitor window is also damn useful when you want to know if the port-serial converter-driver mess is working while you're still indoors without GPS signal.

My thoughts:

-The "no data in 1.5 minutes" warning dialog is irritating. A "no fix" or "no data" message in the main display would work just as well and would avoid the pesky bouncing dock icon too.

-You can force the panes to slide out on the other side by putting the main window near the edge of the screen. It won't remember this between sessions though.

-gpsd support would be grand.

GPSUtility Reviewminor ui issue, compass suggestion, review - Version: 1.01, 10/25/2004 11:22PM PST

For some reason both the monitor and settings pane slide out on the right side. I cannot grab the resize box to move it to the other side. This means I have to close the monitor pane to see/change the settings.

The compass heading changes, sometimes wildly, at very low speeds. This might be minimised by averaging the heading over time, increasing the time interval the slower the speed. At 0-0.2 mph (my current standing still reading) where the position hasn't changed in a while, maybe don't display the compass, grey it out, or do something to note that it isn't very reliable.

Otherwise this is very good. I downloaded it to test my USB GPS (Rayming TN-200) before Route 66 arrived, and it meets and exceeds my expectations. This should be included on all Mac compatible GPS CD-ROMs.

With the help of Support, I got it all straightened out and we’re up and running. Looks really great. A little more (any) documentation on what it is and what it does would be helpful, even if just in the ReadMe file.

GPSUtility ReviewOK...it DOES work. - Version: 1.01, 9/10/2004 11:06AM PST

Do you think the extra time it took to type: "Make sure your GPS is active and connected before launching GPSUtility" in the README might have been a good idea?

You know,...it STILL might be.

GPSUtility Developer NoteGPS Utility - Version: 1.01, 9/9/2004 09:01PM PST

GPSNavX
GPS Utility requires a GPS be connected to your Mac before launching otherwise as noted by one user there will not be any GPS functionality.

GPSUtility was created because many users did not need the charting functionality offered in GPSNavX.
