DownloadComment Troubleshooting ReportProblems with save as... - Version: 1.2.1, 6/7/2008 01:27AM PST

pesce.mirabile
I had to uninstall it: when I used the command "save the document as..." (right button of the mouse) to save images from a site to my desktop, half of the images (their icons) weren't displayed (even if they were normally saved in the HD/...user/..desktop folder). Couldn't see them on the desktop.

DownloadComment CommentaryURL in Get Info is NOT there by default - Version: 1.2.1, 6/2/2008 01:16AM PST

BatmanPPC says the URL to a saved Safari file is already included in the Get Info window for that file. He must have some other third-party utility to do this installed, since OS X, at least through 10.4.11, has never included this feature, not even in the "More Info" section.

DownloadComment Commentary"Where from" metadata change? - Version: 1.2, 8/6/2007 09:02PM PST

Does anyone understand the reason for this change in 1.2?

"Adds download URL to "Where from" metadata in addition to Spotlight Comments."

Safari already adds that kMDItemWhereFroms Spotlight metadata without using DownloadComment, which is deleted when files are copied/moved across volumes or copied within the same volume.

The download URLs that every version of DownloadComment saves as Spotlight (Finder) comments are stored in invisible .DS_Store files, making it relatively easy to unintentionally delete those comments by not using Finder to copy/move the original files (even within the same volume).

There are quite a few other ways both the kMDItemWhereFroms metadata and the comments in .DS_Store files can be accidentally deleted (and likely without immediately realizing it) so I've never relied too seriously on either method for permanently preserving download URLs or any Spotlight comments.

Actually, the URL to the file is already included by default. Just not in the comments. Look under More Info when you do a Get Info on a file. DownloadComment is still useful however as the More Info section can't be selected for copy/pasting.

This product is very very useful. A simple program that makes sure if you want to get a copy of the file again you can do so without any problems. I'm very happy we have a version that works with Safari 3, thanks.

I love this app, one of the most useful apps I've used. Ever wonder where you got that photo from, pdf, software etc. this app puts the location in the get info comments. I highly recommend.

Although I haven't given it a full torture test DownloadComment has been 100% reliable since installation a couple days ago and hasn't had any noticeable effect on Safari's performance or stability. It deserves a five-star ratingĀ for doing exactly what it's intended to, fulfilling one function I really missed after abandoning Saft. Thanks, ecamm!

DownloadComment Troubleshooting ReportSlowed Safari and works only on itself - Version: 1.0, 8/20/2005 03:05PM PST

Right after installing DownloadComment it took Safari atleast twice as long to load a page. Not to mention it only worked when I tried it on downloading the actual app again for a test. Didn't work at all for 4 other attempts.
