Skype ReviewWarning! - Version: 2.8.0.722, 11/29/2009 01:05PM PST

I installed this version of Skype on my MacBook (10.6.2) and Skype will not even boot up. Hopefully I can go back to the earlier version.

I certainly don't recommend this version for 10.6.2

Skype Reviewversion 2.7.0.330 still the best for me - Version: 2.8.0.722, 9/21/2009 02:07PM PST

I've tried the new version 2.8.0.722, but my experience wasn't too good.

The new interface is more like the windows version, crunched with things. Some people like it, I rather the clean style (like in Mac-Gnome).

But what made me return to the previous version I had installed was the quality. Sound and video were quite terrible. I tried deleting preferences and fix permissions but it didn't do any good.

For me (Macbook pro1,1, OS 10.5.8 at test-time and 10.6.1 now) Skype version 2.7.0.330 is the one that works the best so far.

Anybody other than me DESPISE how this stupid app keeps adding itself to the login items list, so runs EVERY time you logon? I've removed it from the list, but every time I run the application it faithfully re-adds itself. BAD BAD BAD developers, I see this as equivalent to malware. I'm removing Skype from my computers because of this.

After a long time of suffering the low voice quality, the nonstop echos, the frequently freezing video (on both Mac and PC, but more on Mac). Some time ago I tested Google's chat (via gmail). Its a real small piece of installation (not the 40MB "skype"-like small), it works google-fluently, you use it through your browser, yet two Mac users can use iChat via this service (its easy), the voice quality is great (even when the two computers are in the same room there is NO ECHO), the video works every-time, you hardly notice the resources it uses, it is a part of your gmail-google account, and it works on Mac and PC alike. Having said that, I need not say what is my choice ...
