Product Description:

When development is finished, Rip / Mix / Play / Burn CD+G discs on your Macintosh! Edit ID3 tags, get and submit from FreeDB, Play direct from disc, plug in a microphone to sing along!

What's new in this version:

  • New "smart" playlists, see new section under help. Currently: corrupted zip files, duplicates (list of all duplicates), culled duplicates (list of most recently added duplicates, leaving the first one behind) (Not fully functional right now)
  • New Edit command "Trash Original Files", does what it says, you have been warned.
  • New Edit command "Remove from Library", works on items inside playlists.
  • Zip files that were compressed with something other than "deflate" were being reported as corrupted. I meant to have Expander give them a shot, that was the bug. Now Expander gets it's shot at unzipping the files.
  • Found a bug deleting songs from the library, that would leave the library in a corrupted state. I now detect this and fix it, so you don't have to throw out your library. This is a stopgap until I find and kill the actual bug that causes this. (You'll notice if you see a dialog that says "Umm, sorry, but somehow I've lost track of...")
  • Ugh! Found it!! Fixed a longstanding bug that would cause indexes to increment by 2 when importing new songs, cause the database to get corrupted, and generally leave you in a bad state. Whew!!
  • Woops! That preference "Pause between songs" somehow got deleted!?! It's back.
  • Fixed a bug where double clicking on a song would not play that song, but instead play some other song.
  • When my internal unzipper fails and I launch Stuffit Expander to try, I now bring it to the front, so if THAT fails, you'll get a notification, rather than having it seem like kTunes has hung.
  • We no longer cause Stuffit Expander to quit after it's done. Leaving it up means the next time we need it, it's already there and can start decompressing instantly.
  • (Saturday) Actually started working on the integrated eSeller engine again. Wanted to do it last week but didn't find any time, so I'm a week behind.
  • I started breaking up the app into "Lite" and "Pro" for real now.
  • If you're paused in a song, then Quit, we no longer start playing, so you don't hear 1/8th second of audio. That was annoying.
  • Actually for real started writing the "Singers & Rotation" feature.
  • Like a dork, I spelled "Triple" with two P's
  • New prefs: "Auto Full Screen During Play", "Clear Search Field when switching Source" and "Create Playlists of Imported songs" (Not implemented yet)
  • The search filter now searches on separate keywords (separate by spaces or commas), so now you can type "dead alive dk" and it will find the "DK" version of "Wanted, Dead or Alive"
  • The volume control key shortcuts now work, plus mute. Same shortcuts as iTunes, -Up or Down arrow for volume, -Up or Down to Mute/Un-Mute
  • Wrote a script for use with Romeo, so you can remotely control kTunes with your BlueTooth phone, now available in the Downloads section. Play, pause, next, rewind, previous, volume up/down, mute, change pitch up or down, all from your couch (or the stage, or while seated in the audience), while your computer is over by your TV.
  • When the DB changes and auto-saves, we also save the prefs too, so things like window positions, volume etc are saved
  • Actually for real: Singers and Rotation. Make a new singer, give them a name. twirl them down, see "Tonight", "Favorites" and "History". Wow! Add stuff to their "Tonight" list. Now drag that singer into the rotation: Holy Karaoke Batman! Repeat for other singers, they are interleaved in the Rotation playlist! Yowza!
  • Now, to Rip songs, you can drag them from your CD into your Library.
  • During ripping, as artist names are fetched from iTunes, they are updated in the Browser window (keep your CD selected to see it) (The pause while displaying the fetched name is the time we querry iTunes for the FSRef that contains the path to the MP3 file, so we dont have to look it up later) This makes it painfully obvious how slow it is to querry iTunes for track info one at a time. Soon this will all be a thing of the past as you'll be able to 1) Rip audio in kTunes and 2) enter / edit / get and submit (from freedb or kjpro) ID3 tags for CDs and their tracks. Bu the way, please write to kjpro and insist they open their DB up to online querries of all disc meta info (keyed off a DISC_ID)
  • When ripping you can see the endpoints of the progress "bar". This "ascii graphics" is just 'till I get the nice graphical progress going. Priorities!!
  • Key shortcuts in menus now have all been corrected. You can now see nice glyphs like arrows and delete, and modifiers like shift and option. Take a look at the new menus to see them.
  • Did one simple optimization when loading the DB. With 4000 songs, it used to take 18 seconds to load, now it takes 4. Don't worry, for the 1.0 release I plan to make it such that, even if you have 60,000 songs, it will take only a couple seconds to load. (Save too)
  • No longer crash between songs. Haha!
  • Here's a good one: if you've got an external library (say on a portable hard drive), and you've "Add to Library..."'d them, then later you run kTunes and that drive is NOT connected, 1) you'll start up with normal speed and 2) you won't LOOSE all those references. If you try to play a song it'll just tell you "could not find" audio or video.
  • When you're in the search field, you can still play/pause from the keyboard by holding or , or both, then space, left or right arrow
  • To add someone to the Rotation Que, drag their singer icon into the Que, OR select the "Singers" playlist and check "Here" next to their name. Likewise, to remove someone from the Rotation, uncheck "Here"
  • You can't reorder the Rotation que yet (you will be able to), but you can fake it by removing everyone from the que and adding them back in in the order you want.
  • Lite and Pro are ready to go. The holdup now is eSellerate, for some reason the software seems to be delivering a corrupted file when you upgrade from registered Lite to Pro.

kTunes ReviewThere Is No Other - Version: 1.0d49, 5/8/2008 06:58AM PST

Long and short of it, I have used kJams for several years now, I was one of the early testers for Dave and his product, I've been a KJ for 15 years and I have used kJams professionally for karaoke as wells as for handling backtracks for a lounge act as well as my own online lounge act -- there is no other karaoke hoster, OS X or otherwise, period. No other program offers the features, versatility, polish, presentation, intuitiveness or the capabilities of kJams. This includes the Windows platform as well where I used several hosting programs. No other program parses a massive library in not time at all. Screwed up your library or rebuilt your drive? Re-index the whole dang thing in minutes. Have a singer who sings the same 5 songs every time and is particular about the version? His favorites are in there waiting for you just to click on "here". Have a venue that's just once a month with a core group of folks who always sing the same thing every time? No problem, they're all right there with their favorites and they're not cluttering up the favorites from your weekly gigs. Most of us spend half our lives ripping as well, I did too before I ripped with kJams. Most hosters won't even touch ripping and kJams gives you the best ripper there is period. Anal about your sound quality and want everything in AIFF or WAV? No problem. Like LAME at 128? No problem. Tired of zipping CDG files to compressed files, organizing folders, keeping them all sorted and named the same thing? No problem, kJams rips and sorts your library just like iTunes does. Did I mention integration with KJ Pro so you can keep your song book organized while you rip? Pure genius. Dave is a diligent and attentive developer, he's constantly working on his product to make it better and he's there to fix it when something goes wrong. He communicates well with users finding out what we want in our karaoke program and doing what it takes to get those features integrated into the product. As I stated earlier, there is no other hoster professional or otherwise, OS X or Windows, that measures up to kJams. Look no further.

kTunes ReviewkJams Beats Them All! - Version: 1.0d48, 4/7/2008 12:31PM PST

Comment:
I have been using kJams Pro for over four years and have found this program to be the best KJ program for the Mac for running a Karaoke show. I have followed this program through most of it's developmental stages and it just keeps getting better and better. It plays Karaoke tracks with far superior fidelity and accuracy than the best hardware Karaoke machines on the market, even when the key is changed several steps, thus allowing the singer to hear his/her track undistorted in the key of his/her individual voice range.

The kJams interface keeps your library extremely well organized enabling the KJ to make playlists for individual singers and to play individual tracks with a single mouse click - far more efficient than hunting through CD folders for discs and placing in and removing from a Karaoke hardware machine enabling the KJ to "keep the show going" without any "dead air space."

Even more impressive than the program itself, is the technical support given by Dave Cotter, the software creator of this ingenious program. I have limited knowledge about computers and Dave has provided the most prompt and generous tech support imaginable, even three to four hours at a time in telephone and computer remote control tech support! I have never received such tech support from any other software vendor/developer! Dave's tech support is unsurpassed!

Therefor, I highly recommend kJams! You certainly will be amazed by it's wealth of features, quality of sound and phenomenal tech support!

kTunes ReviewKJams Pro Customer Support - Version: 1.0d48, 1/31/2008 12:00AM PST

Wow, what incredible customer support! I purchased KJams Pro and because of MY lack of computer knowledge, I was having extreme difficulty with the program. I contacted Dave and within 10 minutes of taking over my computer, Dave had me understanding and working the program like a pro. I would purchase this program 100 times over again just for the customer support. Thanks Dave.

Sincerely,

Coni in Florida
