Eavesdrop ReviewUnique and useful - Version: 0.5a3, 3/7/2006 05:27PM PST

I find this app interesting and quite useful. It allows you to see the raw data that's being transmitting via your TCP/IP connection. I don't know much about what alot the data means... but I like to check that, when I use certain TCP/IP apps, the data (such as logins & passwords) are not being transmitted in plain text. Also, it's interesting to see the background noise that seems to be transmitted, from your computer, related to cookies, and what-not. I've never seen anything similar to it. I'd give it 5-stars if it had a "Help" section, or a manual, for better understanding of things. (And, the "Save" function doesn't seem to work).

Eavesdrop Troubleshooting ReportUnable to save capture - Version: 0.5a1, 11/23/2005 02:18PM PST

Chris Milne
Works beautifully for me. Especially love the image decoding feature. Only flaw seems to be that I can't 'Save' or 'Save As' the capture. The error message that slides out is 'The document "Untitled" could not be saved as "Untitled"'. Same error no matter what filename/path is chosen. Otherwise the application works quite well.

Eavesdrop Troubleshooting ReportNo output ? - Version: 0.4b3, 7/25/2005 07:51AM PST

TheRookie--2008
When running eavesdrop on my PB 1.67 and OSX v10.4.2, no output is generated. It doesn't matter whether i enable or disable promiscuous mode...

i've set the permissions on /dev/bpf*; is there anything else that needs to be done ?

Eavesdrop ReviewGreat app, though CPU usage goes out of sight - Version: 0.4b3, 4/17/2005 09:33AM PST

Eavesdrop is great- does what it says and provides an eye-opening look at how much your Mac is constantly communicating in the background without your knowledge. Also amazing to see how unsecure most of your communications really are.

Only glitch is that once Eavesdrop begins a capture, CPU usage goes to around 85% on my G4 iMac with 768 megs of ram! You have to quit Eavesdrop to regain your CPU- stopping capture alone is not sufficient.

This software is the best sniffer i ever see, is way of showing packet is very cool.
there is still some little bug (normal it's a beta !) and it's a bit slow sometime but it's very good, will be a ethereal killer when it will have more feature

Eavesdrop ReviewGood tool - Version: 0.4b3, 11/27/2004 07:41PM PST

I'm sure some will want to shoot the messenger with this app. But personally, the best defense is knowing your weakness in my opinion. This tool really opened my eyes to how insecure my box was.

Eavesdrop CommentaryA great start - Version: 0.4b3, 11/27/2004 08:00AM PST

Once speed issues are resolved, I might actually use this instead of Ethereal. Certainly excellent freeware. Let's hope active development continues, and we get a good sniffer for Mac OS X.
