RoyhinckleyWe are now using AC for all of the recordings at the University of Utah Gardner Hall. We use it because it is simpler and easier to script than ProTools or Logic. (Both of which we own and use in other labs.) We also use it for automated recordings.
We have it set up with five instances (copies) of one AC running on one machine, each routed to a different input stream from a 002 (and one routed to the line input). We have the automation set so it will record each hall or recital room (five total) whenever there is any signal. This means we basically record everything all the time in five spaces. So we have been running AC constantly, an average of 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, five concurrent copies for about six months. It has been extremely robust and reliable, with rare failures, yet simple and staightfoward for our application.
I still prefer Audacity...and it's free!

CuairteoirHowever this app. is more sophisticated and user-friendly. To my knowledge there hasn't been – amongst the rec. apps that already exist – a program like it under OSX untill recently. Anyway, it's a good thing that this void is being filled. This is an app. that has – like it says in the description – the ability to automatically split a recording from say a vinyl record or a tape.
It is fully Cocoa-written and Core Audio compatible and even though i use ProTools for recording - a lot of the time i prefer to plug the mikes into my Digi001 hardware (which incidentally – isn't recognized by an app. like Wiretap Pro) and let Audio Companion do the job instead. Not only because its CPU usage is so much lower but also because you can record your playing without having to touch the keyboard or the mouse.
Once you've got the parameters set correctly, that is.
