In the next version of Sunbird, they should make it compatible with iCal data.

Sunbird Reviewwon't launch here either - Version: 0.2, 2/4/2005 11:08PM PST

gives a msg saying that "all previous extensions have been disable" and then immediately crashes.
guess it still needs a lot of work - why release it in this state?

Sunbird CommentaryWon't even launch - Version: 0.2RC2, 1/14/2005 04:14AM PST

First launch: tells me that it has disabled the extensions I had installed (freshly re-imaged machine, never had Sunbird on it, never had any Sunbird extensions installed), then auto-relaunches, then crashes completely.

Second launch: appears in the Dock bounces for a sec, then disappears. Repeat ad-nauseum - it never launched.

Removed everything with the word "sunbird" in it, tried again, same thing. I know Firefox, Thunderbird and Sunbird do this thing where they launch and then quit when they run auto-importers or migration of files, etc, but this just doesn't run. I've been able to get previous builds to launch, but this one won't (it's on a test machine which I re-image frequently).

Sunbird ReviewSunbird has a long way to go - Version: 0.2RC2, 1/12/2005 11:27AM PST

I'm glad they are working on a calendaring app for the Mozilla line. But Sunbird needs a lot of work. It is in much worse shape than Firefox and Thunderbird were at the 0.2 stage.

There are very simple problems like click & drag having problems. Creating an event causes a modal dialog to appear. So you can't navigate around while you're creating an event.

I have hope for this product. But it's in rough shape right now.

Sunbird CommentarySunbird Woes - Version: 0.2RC1, 12/31/2004 04:59AM PST

Sunbird (0.2RC1) crashes on first launch after installation. This is a repeatable error on my iBook (G3). After this hurdle is passed it launches reliably, albeit slowly.

Importing calendars from iCal is a discouraging experience. After a long wait with a spinning cursor on screen, and several faltering attempts at window drawing, Sunbird does eventually become usable. However, action is needed to stop it displaying obsolete alerts post import. I have seen it display a window claiming there were 99 alerts needing my attention when only one was relevant to the day in question. Moreover, one of the alerts was more than 6 months old.

Sunbird Troubleshooting ReportHung up trying to import iCal calendar - Version: 0.2RC1, 12/22/2004 02:25PM PST

I tried to import my .ics file from iCal. It churned away for a while, then tried to bring up an alarm window which was completly blank and, weirdly, kept changing dimensions. My processor was pegged at 100%. Eventually I force quit Sunbird. I imagine that had I waited long enough it may have completed, but I didn't want to stick around for that.

I use iCal and sunbird together on my job, but when I enter a new event in sundbird, it does not show in iCal. So I will keep WinDates on my pc - for now !!
