Product Description:

SOHO Labels & Envelopes is the fastest way to design and print professional labels, envelopes, and letterhead on your Macintosh. It's a complete design kit that includes 13,000+ designer graphics, 50 Bitstream commercial-grade fonts, and hundreds of ready-made designs. It supports over 1,500 label and envelope stocks including Avery, DYMO, APLI, and A-One. Print address, shipping, file folder, name badge, inventory, floppy disk labels and more. Supports 15 barcode formats including POSTNET, serial numbers, DYMO printers, Mac OS X Address Book, tab delimited files, and international addresses. Powerful design tools include 30+ shapes, 100+ image masks, 350+ fields, transparency, shadows, rotation, auto-text scaling, smart-guides, iPhoto integration and more.

What's new in this version:

  • Added some Curved Text controls to the inspector window. Curved text can now be set to: Circular or Spiral. The spiral "rate" can be adjusted from "Slow" to "Fast". Spiral text works best with larger text boxes.
  • Added a "Print Label Outlines" setting to the Preferences dialog. Previously, this setting was in the Print dialog, but it interfered with Leopard's print preview feature
  • Added a "Crop To Labels" setting to the Preferences dialog. This setting should be normally enabled when printing directly onto a CD/DVD, but can be disabled for other label types.
  • Added stepper buttons next to the font size field in the inspector window. This makes it much easier to resize text.
  • Label documents have the option of printing page numbers and the current date at the bottom of each page. These settings are now ON by default (but can be turned off using the Options button at the bottom of the window in Preview mode).
  • Fixed a crash that would occur when printing documents with images whose settings (hue, saturation, image effects, etc.) had been changed. This only occurred under Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when printing a label with a large background image (where the background image resolution exceeded the Print Quality preference)
  • Changed the name of the "Contacts" tab on the side of the window to "Fields".

SOHO Labels ReviewNeeds more work... - Version: 3.0.1, 12/20/2007 03:42AM PST

I used version 2.5 for over a year and this was just about OK. However, version 3.0.1 is very buggy.
The Chronos support site looks impressive but offers nothing - not even a reply!
Some of the features I requested over a year ago (like FULL Royal Mail barcodes) are now in the product Mail Factory.

Maybe SOHO Labels version 4 will fix things?

I indicated when I upgraded and since Chronos is basing upgrading qualifications (thirty-day prior to release of version 2 to 3) then it makes no sense at all to upgrade until a version 4 is released unless you want to pay more in the long run. Although optional Chronos' upgrade pricing model is too expensive. Many of the new 3.0 features were already implemented by the competition some time back.

On forums, I find everything Chronos states as absurd as even some of the smallest developers have forums. I also have submitted via your new system only to receive responses a week to a week and a half later. Forums are vastly superior at resolving issues, and at the very least affirm what others are experiencing in the way of problems. It is not only Chronos loss, but more so the end users’ loss that the forums were disbanded. A prefect example of an excellent forum is Scrivener’s. Chronos seems bent on ignoring its customers true wishes, and keeping the company in the Dark Ages. Good luck Chronos...you’ll need it.

SOHO Labels Developer NoteRe: Ludicrous Upgrade Policies - Version: 3.0.1, 11/1/2007 09:09PM PST

The last paid upgrade was version 2 which was released January 2007, not six months ago. Version 1 was released over three year ago in August 2004. Like most software companies, we strive to release major new upgrades to our software on an annual basis. Chronos also has a long history of releasing multiple minor updates that add additional features for FREE between major upgrades. The great thing about major upgrades and minor updates is that they're OPTIONAL. If they don't offer functionality that interests you then you can skip them until one does. If there's functionality you'd like to see then we'd definitely be interested in hearing your feedback.

As for our forums, we started our support forums about two years ago as an experimental way to conduct technical support (we eliminated our email support at the same time). After about a year, we switched from the forums back to email support because of the overwhelming feedback from customers asking that we switch back to email support. The vast majority of users simply preferred one-on-one support in a less public environment.

We have recently fine-tuned our technical support even more by implementing a ticket-based system that allows customers to track all of their support inquiries. The new system lets users see exactly how long it has taken to get a response and review a history of all their support issues. So far it's been very well accepted.

We appreciate your feedback both positive and negative.
