Product Description:

Reunion is a genealogy software program -- a "family tree program" -- for the Macintosh. Reunion received the highest rating for genealogy software in MacWorld, MacAddict, and Mac Home Journal magazines. Reunion helps you to document, store, and display information about your family -- your ancestors, descendants, cousins, etc. It records names, dates, places, facts, plenty of notes, sources of information, pictures, sounds, and videos. It shows family relationships in an elegant, graphic form -- people and families are linked in an easy-to-understand fashion. Reunion makes it easy to publish your family tree information -- even if you want to share it on the Web. You can automatically create common genealogy reports, charts, and forms, as well as birthday calendars, mailing lists, questionnaires, indexes, and other lists. Reunion even calculates relationships, ages, life expectancies, and statistics. Reunion also creates large, high-resolution, graphic charts allowing complete on-screen editing of boxes, lines, fonts, and colors. Wall charts are one of its specialties.

Reunion ReviewLong-time user - Version: 9.0b, 10/14/2009 06:38AM PST

I'm a long-time user of Reunion…I started over 10 years ago, having used FTM (blech!) before that. I have a fairly large (50,000+) tree, the vast majority of which was manually entered, with lots of notes & sources. What I love of about Reunion is the ease and speed of entering people & data. Once you learn the shorthand codes, it's extremely quick. I've often said that Reunion was perhaps the best program — of any kind — that I use… mostly in terms of speed and stability: it just *works*. My favorite features include the find and list functions and the ability to save marked sets of individuals. Although a few other apps have now surpassed it in my eye (InDesign & Illustrator, e.g.), I still think Reunion ranks high.

That being said, there are a couple drawbacks, already mentioned in previous reviews. The web export is too limited in flexibility. It might have been fine years ago, but it's not sophisticated enough for today. I've used other programs to export to web and now use TNG exclusively for my online database. Charting in Reunion is worse. I've never used it successfully. If I need a chart, which is seldom anyway, I'll make it in OmniGraffle or Illustrator.

The last upgrade I've purchased was version 8. I tried out version 9, but found no compelling reason to upgrade. I'll reconsider if they improve charts & web export.

Overall, though, I still love the program and would recommend it to anyone serious about their genealogy and who won't be needing what Reunion doesn't do as well.

Some of these poor reviews here must be agenda-driven. I've been a Reunion customer for around eight years and version 9 is much better than the earlier versions. Have also looked at and evaluated alternative genealogy software and none are really in the same league, IMHO. Support is excellent and you don't need to worry about patch-per-week updates, either.

Lastly, it's not a Windows port as it was never developed for that platform. I still think Reunion is the gold standard for genealogy software.

Reunion ReviewExpensive, limited features, good documentation - Version: 9.09, 6/25/2009 04:46AM PST

I have not bought the full version but I've tried the demo for a few days. It looks and behaves more like a windows application than a mac application. Also, it does not offer any good charts and the web export is really really bad. Even 1995 it would have been sub-par. 99 US$ is way to much for this app.

Looking at the other genealogy options, I've looked at iFamily and finally went for MacFamilyTree a few days ago (see my review on the MacFamilyTree page, excellent application).
