Product Description:

If you are one of the millions of people all over the world who would love to learn to play the piano or some other keyboard instrument but you hate reading musical scores, then read on! Part of the difficulty may be that when learning to play a keyboard instrument you are often really trying to learn two things at once; learning to read a score, and learning to play the instrument as well. That's hard.* Rondo can make learning to play a piece of music much easier by showing you which notes you should play on a virtual keyboard as the music is playing. While there are several applications that do this, Rondo goes a step further by placing the virtual keyboard over a vertically scrolling grid of the notes to be played. By placing the keyboard over the continously scrolling note grid it is possible to see which notes are about to sound and move your hand to the correct position to play them.

What's new in this version:

  • The font size in the Library views can be changed via the Preferences dialog.
  • The Library playlist view now has a contextual menu with a number of commands such as finding a file on disk, creating a new playlist from the selection, selecting duplicates or 'lost' files etc.
  • A playlist selection can now be copied and pasted into another application such as Text Edit or a word processor.
  • Playlists can now be printed. The font size used for printing is the same as for display. The contextual menu mentioned above can also show where the page breaks will be.
  • When importing files into the library, if duplicates are detected a dialog will appear asking how they should be handled. They can be ignored, added as usual, or the files location can be updated in the database. This last method makes it easy to relocate files after moving Rondo to a new computer or hard drive. See the help file for more info.
  • Exported files can now be made more General MIDI compatible by removing bank change and system Exclusive events. This may make GS and XG files play better in Rondo.

Rondo ReviewSuperb...... - Version: .8, 8/10/2004 08:07AM PST

Wasn't sure how useful this would be to me, but it could become an essential. I do a lot of remixing & like to be sent midi files rather than just audio to work with. Dropping a new midi file into Logic & setting up plug-ins for each instrument takes a long time, especially if I am only going to eventually use just one track. This is going to be a really quick way to audition those files.

A really useful feature would be the ability to export a new midi file from Rondo which would remove any of the midi tracks that have been muted.

Ever since I had to stop using Arnold's MIDI player under OS9, I've been looking for a decent MIDI player. This might as well be it. Refreshingly new look and feel, nicely done. Worked without a hitch with my external MIDI devices.
