Product Description:

Emacs/Carbon is an Aqua-native build of the powerful Emacs text editor. Emacs now has full support for the Aqua environment, including cutting-and-pasting from the OS X clipboard, sending Applescript commands to other applcations through the shell, and a double-clickable application icon. There is not, however, an officially-supported binary distribution from the Emacs group. This build, compiled from CVS code that was checked out on August 4, 2004, aims to provide a useful service to the Mac OS X community.

This is only a preview release of the upcoming 2.x series.

As a stable, reliable editor suitable for everyday use, I would recommend Aquamacs 1.9 which has just been released and will see maintenance in the near future.
