WaveWindow ReviewToy ... not a tool. - Version: 3.1, 3/25/2006 11:06AM PST

While this produces entertaining displays of waveforms they're not particularly useful. I'm especially disappointed in the Lissajous display. The author doesn't grasp that the classic use of Lissajous is to plot phase angle between L and R inputs, with L feeding vertical and R feeding horizontal. Instead he seems to be plotting a sum vertically against a sinusoid horizontally. Too bad. A true Lissajous could help home recordists avoid out-of-phase conditions between a pair of mics that will affect the quality of their work, or stimulate them to create mixes that aren't perfectly monaural. But alas, this is mere eye candy.

WaveWindow Usage Tipre: microphone only? - Version: 3.0.4, 1/18/2005 10:28AM PST

Have you tried running WaveWindow with Detour or JackOSX? If WaveWindow is recognized by either of these or similar goodies, you may be able to re-route iTunes output into WW without having to go thru a mike.

I just love it. It works very well. The payment remainder comes about every 2 min but it costs only $9 so it's worth it. About the complaint that it doesn't work with iTunes, I just tried it and if you play music thru the speakers, the microphone can pick it up and you can use the oscilloscope, so it's not a problem for me.
I especially like the feature it has to give you the average frequency of the wave. This is quite useful. I think it would be an excellent tool for physics teachers to learn about sound. You can easily teach the concepts of amplitude and frequency with this.
