I tried using this to compact a sparse disk image. It went through the process, freed up 10 gigs, and then hung on "Finishing". The resulting file was unmountable, and I've lost all the content as a result.

FreeDMG CommentaryI used to love FreeDMG - until 0.5.x - Version: 0.5.3b, 7/27/2005 11:17AM PST

I replaced my 0.4.x with a 0.5.x and it never worked for me. With 0.5.3b, I get "Initializing... Finishing...hdiutil: create failed - internal error" I had a different error with 0.5.2b. The developer is not responding to the messages that I left on the web site Re. these errors and a request for a 0.4.x version. I am using Dimage again. It is also very good, but not as fast or convenient as 0.4.x was. What a pity...
