FreeDMG ReviewLost my files! - Version: 0.5.5b, 10/31/2007 10:04AM PST

I tried using this to compact a sparse disk image. It went through the process, freed up 10 gigs, and then hung on "Finishing". The resulting file was unmountable, and I've lost all the content as a result.

FreeDMG CommentaryI used to love FreeDMG - until 0.5.x - Version: 0.5.3b, 7/27/2005 11:17AM PST

I replaced my 0.4.x with a 0.5.x and it never worked for me. With 0.5.3b, I get "Initializing... Finishing...hdiutil: create failed - internal error" I had a different error with 0.5.2b. The developer is not responding to the messages that I left on the web site Re. these errors and a request for a 0.4.x version. I am using Dimage again. It is also very good, but not as fast or convenient as 0.4.x was. What a pity...

I have just recently discovered this image maker and really find it easier to use then using Apple'sDiskUtiliy.

This is application is a one trick pony that makes disk imaging a breeze.

I recommend FreeDMG.

Quick and easy with the ability to set several options. Works well and you can't beat the price. It's like DropStuff for DMGs.

I have tried this app a few times. Sometimes it works, but more than once it get's an error. Usually on a drag n drop DVD I am trying to image. Latest - I wanted to backup my New iLIFE DVD and "FreeDMG" got a "Trash permissions error" ??

Again DIMAGE works every time, but it seems the developer has not updated it in a long time - I am hoping for an app like this that will be around for a while. Please correct to allow DVD imaging as drag n drop.

as the title says. i need an option to overwrite an existing diskimage.
now i have to open the folder in the finder an delete the existing dmg first.

And the dmg are very large. i'm currently using a shell script from the Adium sourcecode and the dmg files are smaller.

...has the capability to make .dmg's built in. However, this little app significantly simplifies the process. If you have CD/DVD-burning software like Toast, you may discover that a .dmg file creator like this is a little redundant, but I recommend it as quick no-frills solution.

Dimage allows me to drag n drop entire DVD's and it creates a perfect ".dmg". Maybe this will also - seems cool.
