coyote4til7I've just installed the current release (1.18.4.3) and it seems to be stable on my machine. The list of bug fixes was very long (at around 50 items I stopped skimming), so they _seem_ to be moving fast on improvements.
The bottom lines seem to be:
1) Second Life stability is very dependent on your hardware combination.
2) If the current release causes problems, try the release candidate:

If you do decide to try it, take the time to go through all the tutorials. They're well worth the time.

coyote4til7The application does not seem to record its existance in /Library/Receipts so an uninstall is a very manual process. Searching on SecondLife, "Second Life" and Linden seems to be the key. Remember the quotes on "Second Life" or you'll come back with everything that has the words second and life anywhere.
If you actually happen to get anywhere, it will probably cache things somewhere in your user folder, too.

MacBook Pro Graphics Issue - Version: 1.18.3.5, 10/8/2007 09:32PM PST
(2 of 2 users found this comment useful)
pk18When running Second Life on an affected MacBook Pro, your machine completely freezes up. The cursor doesn't move, pressing the Caps Lock key does not change the Caps Lock light and your machine is no longer reachable from any other machine on the network. The only means available to recover is to hold the power button down until the Mac powers off and then restart it. [edit] Is my MacBook Pro affected?
If you have a GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip, then it probably is. Only the 2.2 and 2.4 GHz MacBook Pros have this model of video card at the current time. To see if you have this graphics card, go to Apple Menu -> About This Mac and then click the "More Info..." button, or open /Applications/Utilities/System Profiler.app. In the window that appears, select "Graphics/Displays" out of the "Hardware" category.

READ and THINK - Version: 1.18.3.5, 10/1/2007 03:06PM PST

Andreas..It took a neighbour 5 minutes to decide she regretted d/loading it. It then took me an hour to get rid of the mountain of sheer garbage that this piece of **** had installed in a variety of places on her Mac. There is no way she could have found all that crud by herself.
READ and THINK TWICE - and then THINK AGAIN.

Should not be released if it doesn't work.
