BTFlip Reviewgood but slooow... - Version: 2.0, 7/28/2004 05:35AM PST

The app is nice but could be much better. First of all it is a second app i know that can go through all the pictures in one folder by opening only the first one (unlike Preview.app where one has to select all images in order to view them all). The other one i know is Outlaw ( http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/9966 ), but it seems that it was dropped at early development stage. The thing is - Outlaw is faster, but BTFlip looks better. BTFlip has some serious problems with displaying fluently large pictures (about 3000x2000 pixels) and then is very slow. Smaller images are no problem.

What is good?

- An ability to view all images in a folder by opening only one of them

- An ability to switch images using mouse wheel

What is bad?

- Too slow when dealing with really large pictures

- Lack of fullscreen mode

I have been really frustrated with how slow image viewing is on the Mac (which supposedly has such world class multimedia support). I'm used to ACDSee on the PC, which can churn through images as fast as I can hit the button... Anyway, I tried BTFlip but it failed the first test - you can't drag a folder to it. Then it failed the second test - it has a register timer nag thing... I deleted it.

ViewIt from hexcat.com is as close as I've found to ACDSee for the Mac, although it lacks a file view with preview pane.. and it's nowhere near as fast.
