sterMachine ReviewNew interface not quite as described - Version: 2.3.0b, 3/21/2005 01:11PM PST

John Sawyer
The main feature that's supposed to be new with the 2.3.0 update, to display all of sterMachine's functions from the main window, appears to be just the opposite, in a way--the previous versions literally did show most options in a single window, but 2.3.0 requires you to access each option from popups in the small main window, each of which brings up its own window. Also, some options are still accessed only from the menu bar. Not an improvement as far as I'm concerned, and it really is the opposite of what the author describes as being the new interface.

Besides that, it's a fine utility.

This app think takes a loooong time to load (on 10.3.8) Crammed packed with lots of features although some do not function. Promising.

This works great!
A very nice all-in-one utility, and you cant beat the price.
I have it and use it on several machines and have never had a problem yet.

If "Delete Keychain" option is checked when entering an admin password, quitting the app will produce an error message:

Keychain Scripting got an error: Connection is invalid. (-609)

The app more often than not quits normally after clicking OK, but sometimes it refuses to quit and must be force-quit.

sterMachine ReviewExcellent Versatile and Robust All-In-One Utility - Version: 2.2.2, 10/28/2004 02:06PM PST

sterMachine packs a tremendous number of functions into an intuitive, simple and clean interface. The developer is rapid to respond to questions and issues, and has even implemented requests from me. if you are having any problems, just contact the developer. sterMachine covers many functions that you have to pay for in other utilities. It has worked well and fast on my G5 Dual 2.5GHz, G4 Dual 1GHz and Titanium PowerBook 1GHz machines. Unlike some other apps, sterMachine does not leave the root password vulnerable to malicious shell scripts. There has been negative feedback about the number of updates to sterMachine. The large number of updates are due to the developer's enthusiasm for the product. The vast majority of updates are to introduce new features and improvement, not to fix bugs. This developer is probably putting a great deal of time into this, and does it for FREE. I would easily recommend sterMachine to anyone who wants to streamline the number of applications and utilities they need.

I have found that sometimes I have to use mozilla and go to my filesharing page. Then download the newly uploaded file there first. If I don't the old file gets downloaded all the time.

sterMachine ReviewI like it. No problems here - - Version: 2.1.5, 10/9/2004 04:14AM PST

and I think it's rather clever. There's an awful lot packed into this one funky but somehow appealing interface. Shows a lot of inventiveness, promise, and seems to work just fine on two G4 Powerbooks, and in record time. Of course, I do actually maintain my machines, and, being a woman, unashamedly - and of course intelligently - Restart. Hence, you won't see me having to trash every new developer when the problem is your machine, boyz.

This many updates in such a short period is generally a warning sign. It would be better if the developer could work these issues out on his home machine before posting this program to the world.
