Was just starting to get used to it and went to the developer's website for an update and…he's no longer developing it.

With a type expander like Typinator (much less buggy than TextExpander), Smultron competes with BBEdit. Advantage - your sniplets are accessible in all your other text editing applications (including browsers).

Brilliant, simple, a rest for weary eyes. Light footprint.

I own BBEdit but plan to do a lot of my work in Smultron going forward.

Great split screen, tab and preview functions.

This is not freeware but donationware. Donate and enjoy software without annoying installation and licensing routines.

This is as good a programmer's editor as there is out there, free or not. I'm a heavy vi/vim user, and this is the only other editor that I use for code.

(I wish gvim and smultron could be merged together somehow. But I'm not complaining, this is a great tool as is.)
