Silmar ReviewRedefining SLOWWWWW - Version: 2.0.8, 9/6/2004 11:11PM PST

It takes me 30 secons to travel a well known path on a G4 800 MHZ, with nothing else running on the box.

I have managed to get lucky and forray in far enough to get goods to survive for a bit, but the save structure really doesn't support the raid style sugested.

Basic healing costs a LOT when you are just starting, especially for diesease.

The dynamic fog of war effect is cool and all, but the perfomance penalty is HUGE. Not to mention that once you have explored a map part, it is just annoying.

Some sort of dynamic mapping (turn off the fog for explored territory? Would go a long way to making this game more playable.

Also even though the levels are rando generated, it might be possible to max the number of bad guys / traps exist in a single room. I have had to restart several times just to survive the first chamber.

Silmar CommentaryNice and not so nice - Version: 2.0.8, 8/1/2004 10:06PM PST

Great looking game, kinda angbandy with better graphics (if you play angband with graphics). Would be nice to have a map feature and the first level is waaaay too hard for an intro. The few times I've stayed alive more than a minute, I've either: run out of torches due to extinguish traps or gotten smacked down looking for the exit behind one of numerous secret doors (this is all on level one). What little gold I've managed to accumulate in my first foray, even if I was able to find the exit, is not enough to cure my diseased status at the temple or whatever, which I have yet to escape being accosted with on any game i've played. I lost 2 of my 15 judgement (wisdom) points trying to find the exit on one game because of the diseased status. The help suggests doing the first dungeon in quick little raids, which is hard because of the 20 or so teleport traps on chests and in corridors. Looks like it could be a great game, but I don't think I'm gonna pay $10 for something that thoroughly kicks my butt every time, no matter what the random dungeon. I'd like to be able to either: level up one level, be able to heal myself, or make it out of level one alive before I throw any money at this. Maybe lessen the difficulty curve, give us more starting money, I don't know... It's just not fun getting you butt kicked over and over and over...
